RE: Suzuki Swift Sport: Driven
Discussion
New Fiesta "ST Line X" starts at 18495... so ST prices will only be north of that. If Ford continue with the ST, ST-2 and ST-3 options then surely an ST-3 will be what, maybe £22k?
Without driving the new SSS and basing my comments purely on the article/pics, I think this could be a fantastic used purchase.
Given it's so light I think with a stiffer rear ARB, lowered center of gravity and a decent suspension geo set up, it could be a great little car! Plenty of mod cons for daily duties and a riot on the weekends.

The list price is irrelevant really as nobody will pay that. Most are going to be leased or PCP deals and if it comes out at an attractive monthly price then it well sell okay. I don't like the look of it though and the wheels are awful.
£249 P/m with no deposit. Was really considering one of these Swift Sports but if the monthly is that high, I dont know why anyone would choose this over for example a Cooper S for the same price.
Better built & faster.

There are more MINIs on the road than there are potholes.

True but there is something to be said for something left of centre like the Swift.

I'd probably agree with you, but there's nothing special really about the Swift. It's a pretty ugly, fairly plain cooking hatchback with a mildly warm engine under the bonnet, and I would imagine there will be plenty of normal "cooking" Swifts about so not really that rare either. For £250 a month, its a no-brainer, I would take the MCS all day. There are more MINIs on the road than there are potholes.
If it has something really unique and special about it, then yeah, but I'm not really sure what it's USP is?

I strongly suspect it will be much more reliable than a mini.If it has something really unique and special about it, then yeah, but I'm not really sure what it's USP is?

I was thinking a few suspension tweaks could sort out the default 'safe' manufacturer setup too.Without driving the new SSS and basing my comments purely on the article/pics, I think this could be a fantastic used purchase.

The USP is 'light', power and handling can usually be sorted, making a car lighter without stripping out lots of gear that make it an everyday usable car is harder. If you have to go for FWD then a small, light car is where the fun is.Higher price point than expected. But the market will soon correct that, it normally does.
I appreciate that this is probably not a driving enthusiasts site but the negativity is difficult to understand as the sheer fact that a manufacturer bothers trying to make a car lighter should be applauded.
I still don't get why people can't accept that looks are subjective either. I think it looks great (far better than the Up! IMO).
Or that the choosen payment method is quite irrelevant.
I think it will soon be available at around £15k, even if lightly used and could make a good daily + occasional track companion for someone as the consumables will be cheap.

Is peak power at 5500rpm so very un-turbo like? The only blown car I've ever owned was a light-pressure 2.3 litre Saab lump and that's just about exactly where its peak power was found.
Indeedy. My Saab is all done by 5500. I expected peak power at 6500 for some revvy action.Mr2Mike said:

It's not unique though is it? it's about the same or similar weight as the cheaper Up GTI. Admittedly, a bit more powerful, but neither are rocketships. And for all its more powerful, you are paying an awful lot more for that fairly modest power increase.TameRacingDriver said:

20% more power and 100kgs (10%) less weight should be quite noticeable, 0-60 should be around 1.5 seconds lower. There is probably more tuning headroom in a 1.4 than a 1.0 too. No they are not rocketships and neither are they RWD, two seat coupes. I don't know if the specs match at the base price and to some extent it depends what you are looking for anyway, you pay your money and take your choice.TameRacingDriver said:

Lighter than the UP! by a significant margin, whilst being a larger and more powerful car. Suzuki need to be applauded for this if nothing else (certainly not applauding those horrible wheels).Mr2Mike said:

Just seen that suzuki have knocked £1500 off the list price for the new sport. Bit more realistic.
Also if anyone has access to forces cars direct they are doing them for around £14500. Pretty much the same price as the old 5 door sport.
Makes it a bit more competitive, on the pricing side at least.
