Nice write up! Enjoyed reading that, I like a story about someone who keeps a car beyond economic repair, always good to hear, had a soft spot for the big french Lagunas, don't know why, don't see many on the roads at all these days. Good shed!
cheers, nice one. every now and then I cast eyes at the 3 series, an A4, or a new insignia. however my trusty shed with a value now of about £200 plods on, basically worth around 14 days use of one of the aforementioned replacements! the mk2 was indeed plagued with issues, and at the time, they had 18k mile intervals which fuelled the problem and reputation. by the time these vastly superior facelift cars came around, the damage to the car was long done. the mk3 didn't stand a chance hence the whole laguna project being pulled a few years after launch.again - the level of kit on these for 2007 was outstanding, integrated blinds for the rear windows for example - they're now becoming options on cars, an option listed at more than this shed!!!!
I like this, a gen-you-wine sleeper.
I wonder what you could get out of the motor with a remap, maybe de-cat, better cooling and things? 250bhp+ maybe? One thing about Renaults is they tend to be lightweight, so it could go pretty flipping quickly if you up the power. Whether it will handle is another matter of course, but even so.

A map should see about that, exhaust, injectors etc etc and 300bhp is about the safe limit before having to forge. Basically, just read up on tuning a megane 225 and apply to this!I wonder what you could get out of the motor with a remap, maybe de-cat, better cooling and things? 250bhp+ maybe? For a few hundred quid over the asking price you could end up with a 300bhp sleeper?..... until it blows up.
Presumably the handling is well short of a Megane RS?
The Laguna mk3 GT was a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to handling. It had the 4control system from the Coupe fitted and journos at the time praised it, but sadly nobody bought it, so good luck finding one these days.Presumably the handling is well short of a Megane RS?
The mk2 was more of a barge, and probably nowhere near a Megane RS in terms of handling, making the GT name quite appropriate .
Interesting shed and it does have some poke. Great to see Mrs Shed back with a bang too.
Something about the fourth pic is doing my head in though. It looks all out of alignment and drooping towards the left side of the car - especially the rear spoiler and the upper part. Is it just the road camber?

I had them on my list of cars to try back in the day . Until we had one into the bodyshop for repair . It had been near a fire and melted the front , the cost of parts made us gasp !
It needed everything plastic or painted from half way up the bonnet forwards replacing . I seem to remember that the headlamps and control units was about £2k .

ha, was wondering when one of these would pop up...I've ran 3 of these, albeit in 2.0dCi form, which knock out 175ish as standard. (allegedly the highest powered 4pot diesel at the time).
for those myths about all Renaults are unreliable etc,
first one - sold at 115k.
second one - scrapped just shy of 270k due to turbo failure and car generally getting tatty.
current one - bought at 100k, now on 216k, did 800 miles yesterday and going (back home) to france next month for a fortnights tour.
mine takes me all over the UK and relatively speaking, have never had anything major fail. I had a gearbox, clutch and flywheel overhaul last year bit this was planned and, although an expensive, still resulted in a years cheap "budget" motoring. other jobs are tyres, brakes and a 12-16wk service, but genuinely with a 10yr old Renault on 50k/year, this is about the lot.
yes theyre a laguna, yes they're boring and yes theyre a poor drive compared to the blue oval. BUT! paid £1500 for my latest 2yrs ago, a car loaded with kit compared to the equivalent; elec/heated leather, Bluetooth, keyless entry, and on some - not this one - the "idrive" style satnav is quite good for its age, even integrating addresses and phone numbers of thousands of POIs, including all of the Renault dealers....
the electric handbrake can be problematic and costly to fix (touches some faux wood). keycards at 10yrs could be susceptible to failure, and as such, would advise any cars come with 2pcs as a backup. (new are £300plus from Renault). back bushes can fail and wear, particularly on the estates.
i've over wondered if the masses would be curious or baulk at these cars. mine can quite genuinely fit in the shed / modified car / budget motoring / cars you didnt know existed / high mileage car / crap plate / good plate thread. I might park it over the lines at asda one weekend and try and fit all threads!
oh, and shed, youre right about them being fitted with an aluminium gearknob - theyre a nightmare on winter mornings!
I had a 2.0dCi 175 for about eight years and it was a decent sturdy car. Good diesel engine and gearbox, lifeless steering, fair reliability. The interior had some style about it without being overly sporty or tacky.for those myths about all Renaults are unreliable etc,

I had a rubber pipe burn through which was connected to the DPF and I almost had the DPF replaced due to that! Luckily the garage spotted that was the problem and just changed the pipe rather than the whole DPF. Two window cables snapped and the heater would sometimes interfere with the radio! The alloys corroded quite badly, still, not bad for the length of time I had it.
