It is the car the will secure the future of Lamborghini and bankroll the lunatic hypercars we all love.
That isn’t correct. Lamborghini is just a part of VW. VW has no need to sell a few Lamborghini badged Audis in order to keep making any of its sports cars. It is the car the will secure the future of Lamborghini and bankroll the lunatic hypercars we all love.

'Secure the future and bankroll what we love' is the desperate, and well trotted out line that petrolhead use to defend the brand they cherish producing cashcows. Let them stay in denial of the brand being a few Geppetto's with spanners in an outdoor shed struggling to make ends meet.

It’s just such a shame that being part of one of the largest companies on the planet they couldn’t have built an actual Lamborghini. A V12, monocoque, road focussed SUV that moved the whole performance SUV niche a massive step forward and was something unique and very special. They could do one and sell versions under both the Bugatti and Lamborghini brands, and a toned down Bentley too.I guess they feel the Lamborghini brand is strong enough to sell it regardless, after all there is no other SUV to compete against it yet as Bentley/Rolls have a non-sporty image. I wonder if a Bugatti version is also in the pipeline, seeing as they aren't making a lot of money over there.
You could speculate that their would have been no business justification for the Veyron to have had 1000bhp if VAG weren't using the launch to get their new brand off the ground.

True but the Veyron wasn’t a Seat Ibiza with a bit of extra leather glued on the inside but a wholly unique car and a show piece as to what the might of VW can achieve. I feel the Lamborghini brand is as, if not more special than the dead Bugatti brand was and for its foray into the essential SUV segment it warranted infinitely more respect than an Audi with a badge glued on. I think your idea of then leveraging off that for a sporty Bentley Continental SUV and possibly an entry level Bugatti would have helped justify the need to spread the investment across more than one top level brand.
The saddest thing about this is that it shows once and for all what Lamborghini’s position is within VW and it’s far, far lower than it deserves. It’s just a means to charge more for an Audi.

They missed a trick not fitting a TT V12, now that would be Lamborghini.
No, removing the four wheel drive, two seats, over a 1000Kg, 1.5m of height, infotainment, drivers aids, parking sensors etc etc etc etc, now THAT would be a Lambo And perhaps untethering them from VW, too.
A positive thing however, is since oil burners are going out of fashion, they're unlikely to produce a diesel version (certainly not with VWs rep.).
Imagine it, a Lamborghini 4X4 with infotainment, parking sensors and glow plugs - I think I'd have to move to another planet

On the other hand, this is the only car on the platform that gets all the toys - most powerful version of the engine, torque vectoring, Torsen diff etc.Obviously, it’s still every bit as awful as a Bentayga despite throwing all the bits at it.

This is seriously going to impact G63 and G65 AMG sales.....
Gotta admit though, you can't blame the VAG group for doing something like this. If people are ready to pay, you've gotta be ready to take their money.....
I don't think it will, people who buy the G series are very loyalGotta admit though, you can't blame the VAG group for doing something like this. If people are ready to pay, you've gotta be ready to take their money.....

So, so fussy and over styled.
Saying only people who cant afford are slating it is a massive over simplification.
I'm sure it will sell, but mainly to those with lots of money but near zero taste / hired out for weddings etc.
That sounds like an even worse over simplification to me.Saying only people who cant afford are slating it is a massive over simplification.

Indeed. Over 100 years ago they were supplying luxury SUVs to every super wealthy chap in every third world, poorly tarmaced corner. The Cullinan in merely a return to their roots before the days of peddling saloons to Jimmy Saville and other super famous people. kambites said:
Good or not, that makes the Ssangyong Rodius look like a resolved, pleasing design.
I'm happy I only had to read as far as the second comment to read something rational, objective and reasoned. I'm not blaming Lambo, or VW.... the market for this kind of crap simply blows middle my age'd, common sense mind.
A message to all those saying this is a good thing simply because it'll bring in money:-
Imagine your favourite band, perhaps a band you admired in you teens, a band that made music you parents didn't understand - now imagine you've just heard their cover of "save your kisses for me" by Brotherhood of man because it would make them more money. Imagine John Cleese takes an acting job in "Benidorm" because there's a fat cheque in it for him.
If Lambo was an independent Co. that desperately needed the money, I could maybe understand this abomination - they're not, they're a small sub-brand of an enormous corporation which has other brands more suited to the SUV ethos.
So yes, I'm disappointed that one of my heros had sold out. It is a sad day.
