I think led lights are going to finish off a lot of cars as they get older. A 99p bulb on a 10 year old car is nothing, but a £500 light cluster probably will be.
Agree with that, I recently had to have the Angel eye on my BMW 5 series (F11, MY11) replaced and they're only done as a full unit.
That was a big cost just for a blown light, so I can fully agree that it's probably going to be an issue unless cheaper replacement parts become available.

Can't remember the last time I saw a Frontera

I've got a mate who has one, much to the derision of his early 20's stepkids who think it is totally uncool.

Not so uncool for him to have driven them from Nottinghamshire to the Alps this ski season, twice! Never missed a beat on either trip.
I had a 2.8td sport, the Isuzu engined one with independent suspension, swb, loved it!! Try finding one now!

I saw a Citroën Xsara this morning. Not something I'd think of as rare or unusual, but it did make me wonder when I'd last seen one, and I really can't remember, it's been a while.

I sill see the odd Volvo 850 around, and sometimes get the impression that they're still on their original owner

There's a retired chap a few roads away who drives an 850 as a daily. It's always immaculate, and sounds lovely as it comes past.

I got chatting to him when he was washing it one day as I walked past, and he told me he got it as a company car in 1993, and then bought for a good price at the end of the lease. It's a 2.5 petrol auto, and it's done 275,000 miles. All the mechanicals are original and everything works as intended. It's had a few bushes replaced, and the shocks were done a few years ago, but generally it goes into the local Volvo indie once a year for a service and MOT, they do whatever is needed, and it just runs happily for another year. It's never once let him down, and never given him a bill of more than £600.

Amazing cars.

I feel like there's a difference in the average age of cars in different parts of the country. In London/South East I often see some of the cars people have said are rare (Saxo, Punto, Corsa B) but driving across Wales recently my 03 reg seemed to be pretty much the oldest thing on the road.

Funny you mention that, as I bought a 55 plate E90 330i with Bi-Xenons in March and one of the Angel Eyes wasn't working. It came complete with some E-bay LED ones that the seller hadn't got around to fitting, but I could see why as access was impossible! I ended up removing the air filter box (passenger light) and got the blown one out. Realised it was just an ordinary bayonet bulb in it that I could release but wouldn't come out of the fitting. banghead

Anyway I broke the bulb, crushed the bayonet and managed to pull it out. Got a small file and filed a couple of slots into the fitting then stuck a new bulb in - result! Much better than nearly £40 just for a sidelight.

I didn't bother with the LEDs as I would've had to dismantle the other side as well. rolleyes

It gets worse as you get older!

Back in the 80s I had a P6 Rover 3500S, MK2 Granada 2.8 Ghia, Mk2 Escort RS2000 and two Capri 2.8 Injections.

Then in the 90s I had a Granada Scorpio 2.8i, Mercedes W123 280e, a Mercedes 190e and other stuff. laugh

The only ones that seem to have survived are the Mercs, but they were built far better back then!

Bang on. They used to be everywhere and I don't think I saw an 18 or 19 plate Mondeo all last year. Nobody in the office has one either. Weird.
