It seems av has been blocked from further contribution here... I'm not sure why but I suspect he may have something meaningful to say to Gavia.... wink

I take no sides here, as a car & bike enthusiast I simply enjoy the banter... I think you're all brilliant, its not normal on PH for a thread to last so long without getting wrongly personal... which I don't think this one has...

I'm going to start a new thread on GG so the banter might continue....

Do shoot me down if you have to....
Why’s he been banned from here? He’s not done anything wrong as far as I’m concerned and I was the one who was on the receiving end of most his Banter and vice versa. He’s certainly not said anything I haven’t in return.
dunno mate, maybe the mods.... did I say I think you're awesome?
wink

I forgot to add that the Subaru is officially slower than a 135bhp 600cc Supersport bike & let's not talk about the Superstock time smile

That Superstock race was white hot, I won't spoil it for you but you might want to watch it, big shout to Sam West & Davey Todd for their great results today.

Sorry to resurrect this but we finally got to put the Golf R against the GSX-R600, admittedly only in a straight line.

As expected the Golf R was faster off the line and up to 85, which is where the bike went past.

Fun for everyone. Got to see what happened, quite proud of my Golf and my mate is happy with his bike!

Your mate needs to learn how to ride his bike.

Think he got a bum start but he passed as expected!

Maybe, but even so he needs to learn to open the throttle to the stop, he should only be in 2nd hear when he went past you at 85, or 1st which should run to 75ish.

My 2007 ZX6R on standard gearing would just hit 90mph in 1st gear. I think your mate needs some practice.

For your mates benefit, I’d suggest taking it down ASAP. 3rd gear? Really? He could’ve done that in 1st.

Hey. I don't know how he rides, I've not ridden a bike in ages, let alone anything like a 600+ bike.

The whole point of the exercise was to see how he faired against the Golf. Not you or your super bikes, just him, HIS skills and his bike against me and my car.

That was the result. Comment on his riding all you want but hopefully you can now see why some people say X car is faster than Y bike because not everyone can ride 'properly'.

Video is deleted cos sensible innit.

What it also shows is how much easier it is to drive a car, than ride a bike. I doubt your mate would’ve stuck the car in 5th gear on that run, which is the equivalent of what he did on the bike.

True.

Regardless, we both had fun and it was a nice test for him to put his bike and his skills against a reasonably quick car.

I'm not going to argue any more about the specifics. The result was the result and that's that. 2 happy participants and I'm not really bothered about anything else!

Quarter mile time for the Golf R is 13.4 seconds. For the GSXR600 around 11 seconds. So on paper no contest. As others have noted, most people could get close to the Golf R’s time (or hit it if it has launch control). Most would be a long way off on the bike. 600s a bit tricky as you need to keep them near the limiter to extract the performance. Hard work. I rode a K1300S and a Hayabusa over the weekend. Hyperdrive pretty much available at all times.

I seem to have found all the incompetent bikers this weekend too.

Nearly rolled through the back of one of them, as he had been a big boy going fast on the straight but then went and anchored up for the corner really hard, I was expecting to go into it about 20mph faster!

The bikes were definitely potent machinery but ridden about as well as I could ride one so a bit sheep in wolves clothing

Drive better, then. If you really 'nearly rolled through' him then you're merely highlighting that your incompetency behind the wheel is as great as his on the bike.

I wasn't driving too closely in the lead up but when someone unexpectedly slams on their brakes much harder and longer than you thought they were going to you tend to get near the back of them. Personally think it was decent driving to react quick enough and to have left enough of my performance margin spare to avoid an incident and not trouble any other road users.
The police driver I had in my passenger seat was surprised by the bikers actions considering his riding up to that point and didn't have any comments on my driving but hey you guys know best.
