Been married 26 years together for 31 years

There is one rule only for a long marriage

Be faithful and loyal . Make them the only one !

Then you can waste your money and fill your garage with crap and she wont be that bothered !

They truely are st cars.
They called them “shopping trolleys “ for a reason, drive one and you’ll find our why.

You really can’t polish a turd!
I'm not entirely sure you have adequate qualifications to make that statement...

So in essence you've got two options OP,

1. Attempt egalitarian negotiations over many months and ultimately end up not getting it.
2. Tell her with the back of your hand like the good old days.

Best of luck whichever route you take! hehe
ref 2)

I hope you are single (and probably a virgin..)

'flattered' what has your violent comments about women, got to do with how you swing, or being flattered.,..,,

Making violent comments about women, is not a good look of Pistonheads, or anywhere. even if just a 'joke'...

especially (bit of friendly advice)if anyone can identify you by name, and where you work... best make that sort of comment when you are anon. (/sarc)

Let me explain then so that the big bad internet people don't hurt me.

My original post was a satirical summation of the two opposing schools of thought displayed in the posts prior to mine in the thread, whereby either OP could discuss things with his wife like a person, or he could 'man up' and all that other primate alpha male st.

I used domestic violence as an exaggeration of this old fashioned attitude, see "the good old days", and to my mind was referencing the sort of ridiculous 50s adverts where a casual slap was exactly the sort of thing a good housewife could expect if she failed in her duties. I feel this is the very definition of satire.

My second post, I'm flattered but I don't swing that way is a Simpsons reference, having Googled it the episode is 'Don't blame it on Lisa'. Anyway, I was referring to your line hoping that I was single, and ignoring the obvious meaning of your post, misinterpreted it as a sexual advance, for comedic effect.

I also felt that the "I'm flattered but I don't swing that way" made a nice double entendre, the alternative interpretation being that I don't swing at women.

Obviously none of these things are funny when having to be explained, and it's questionable if they were even that funny to begin with. Alas I prefer my humour to be a little more testing than Last of the Summer Wine, but each to their own.

I'm not bothered if you know where I work and I don't feel the need to say things anonymously.

If it's of any consolation, despite my sardonic tone I'm glad you feel strongly enough about domestic violence to say something and respect you for doing so, but please understand that it was misguided in this instance.

The beer was genuine, friends?

OP these aren't great to drive.

Looking at the picture there looks like rust above the real bumper and bottom of the front windscreen. There's going to be a lot more rust than you can see, which you'll find when you take the front wings and bumpers off.

Personally I wouldn't buy an MGB with your money.

If you want a coupe or convertible to fit your wife and sun why not:

- Audi TT Mk1
- Alfa GTV (1996-2005)
- Toyota Celica (1999-2006)
- BMW 325ci convertible e46 (2001-2005)
- Audi A4 Cabriolet

Far more modern, comfortable, safe and less DIY

My cousin has had a bit of a nostalgia issue of late and called the other month to tell me he had been looking at getting a car from his youth to have a tinker with and use as a weekend toy.Fast forward a bit and I get another call that he has purchased a car he always wanted back in the day ..a S2 RS Turbo. Ohhh cool says I. But what’s the wife have to say about it. He went a bit quiet. Apparently she’s not as enthusiastic as he is about old Fords cluttering up the place. In fact she was quite annoyed that he payed £700 pounds for an old Escort.

But... it wasn’t £700 was it dear cousin it was more like £7000. And to top it off he bought a track prepped Fiesta Turbo not long after too. Divorce maybe on the cards or at the very least..... crushed testicles.

Buyers remorse kicked in before purchasing (or common sense) and back tracked out of it. Then some self justification to internet strangers

sorry i sent the message via my phone but for those of you that struggle with text based english post i re write it now that i am at home on my laptop.

Basically he wanted £2000 for the car and £40 for the water pump he had to replace this week on it...totalling to £2040....I asked him would he accept less money at £1650 he said no.... I did not see the point in driving for 3 hours for a second viewing when my wife pointed out lot more rust than i even spotted. Plus when i checked under the car there was a rusty parts on the chassis....how bad? its hard to tell but it wasnt clean rust free and painted like it should be.... Was i blinded by the memory of my grandfathers MGB that was same as this car? yes i def was. did i see sense? well basically i got a lot of information from various people and videos about MGB's.... and the bottom line seems to be that there easy cars to rust and require a ton of money to put right.

If it was a case of gambling a grand or £1500 i might of gone for it but my feeling was i rather keep my £2000 money and look for a better car instead. I just not sure i trusted the seller that much anymore, he keeps claiming it was rust free and was restored, it was not rust free and it was restored in someone garage 23years ago and had 5 previous owners in the 1980s. i think he lost my respect when he was asking me for the £40 for the water pump. (not my problem if the water pump went before it was sold)
