Nicely written article. Thanks Matt!

Looks / sounds amazing. I do wonder though how / if anyone runs them as daily drivers as the one I took out on the track at Silverstone was an absolute bone shaker it was so stiff plus it was not in the least bit comfortable. I was glad to leave it behind tbh.

TX.
Bizarre. I spent a lot of time in my friends 991.1 RS when he had it and the damping was some of the best I've felt. Sure it's primary ride is robust, but the secondary ride is fantastic. Taught, solid and able to deal incredibly well with harsh impacts. Of course you'd be stupid to run it as a daily though as they're not designed as such.

What would you do to make it look more interesting? Personally I prefer the more understated looks of the GT3 Touring & R.
Not look like literally the other million 911s on the road would be a start.
When was the last time you saw a 911 with wing vents, a race car worthy wing & usually painted in a colour from the louder end of Porsche's pallet on the road? The GT cars are form follows function, they don't need anything like scissor doors for the hell of it. What about a flat nose (which I bet wouldn't pass crash regulations) ?

I'm just bored with the basic shape of the 911, however fantastic they may be to drive, and I do believe they are.

I also accept I am in a tiny minority and most folks love the 911 shape.

The good news is I. 2-3 yrs there will be plenty of them to choose from 2nd hand when a little market correction comes in then these will be a nice buy. For now I hope those lucky enough get them in track.

You don't have to like the way the 911 looks. But the looks aren't harming sales (to collectors, speculators or otherwise) - the whole range in a variation on the 911 design language to a greater or lesser degree, even the Mission-E, which is some I can't see changing for a long time (if ever). The basic 911 shape & the engine position is the only real link to the original.

You can spend c£140K on plenty of cars that don't look like a 911 & it'll probably easier to find a dealer who can/will sell you it too, but they may not drive as well.

Ruby Stone (but it isn't a standard colour & the UK doesn't get Paint to Sample on GT cars)

Well. That’s a matter for debate really. It depends how important you are to Porsche and how late you take your allocation

I not sure Porsche even know I exist but I happy to get the last car if it helps.

So Porsche HQ like the latest 911. Plus ca change.

Approaching 55 years of making them bigger and uglier.

Having moved the RSR engine to a better location (again), is it pride that prevents them building an even better car by moving the enigne to the same location, so much for homologation rules.

Presumably a manual box would be a better “drivers” car.

The best turn in evs, even with that huge and heavy rear end pushing it about. The only competitor to that title being a front engined lightweight. 2+2=blather.

Nice colour though. 🙄

My friend was told if he wanted PTS on his GT3 he’d need to wait for the second batch. There are PTS cars out there in the UK. Couple of Riviera blue 991.1 RS’s and some GT3s in PTS. There were even a couple of GT4s with PTS, one of which is in the Porsche Approved stock atm. Weirdly, the Yanks can easily get PTS without any funny business at all!

I’m sorry what? Your sentences contain English words, but I can’t say they’re arranged into anything that makes sense...

Looks good, but not enough better than my 9.1RS to change...which is already more capable than I am. I will wait for the 992RS. OF course there will be the usual manual vs PDK debate, which is fair enough.- all I can say is that mine is just superb on track, so this is evidently better. Curious to see how much of this is the new tires, which I will get.

The 991.1 GT3RS on many tracks is slightly slower than a AMG GTR, and that car IS (front) mid engined, with a lower polar moment of inertia than the rear heavy Porsche.
So the comments re turning in better should be reserved until a direct comparison is made with the 991.2 and the AMG GTR.
The AMG has quite a bit more power.

I've seen it speculated on Rennlist that such a car in uber limited numbers is coming.
Homologation rules in gt racing are a bit of a joke. Porsche didn't even need an exemption for the rsr, changing the position of the gearbox/engine was actually allowed under existing regs. A mid engine car just to homologate the rsr is not required.

Are you considering getting one of the manual GT3s Ronan or have you already got one? I'll never forget seeing your beautiful orange 991.1 RS that day on Bloor St mate - it looked otherworldly compared to the rest of the traffic

I might be wrong, but I'm sure I read somewhere on another thread that Porsche do not like you switching for different tyres as the cars handling and balance has been specifially built around the tyre compound and package in use?

It even says in this article that both the GT2 RS and GT3 RS using PS tyres but different compounds due to the difference in weight.

I kept my trusty old green 997 GT3RS which is a simple 6 spd analogue manual car with no stability control. I will hang onto the two of them indefinitely and maybe add the 992 whenever it shows upsmile
