" Happily, because that facelift was about as successful as the one Mrs Shed had done in her horse-racing phase, when a dodgy trainer with too much money promised to drop his jockeys and enter her at Newmarket if she'd improve her boat race, "

Thanks.
Oh no I've just bought a Metro thanks to this weeks sotw! Update to follow.
This is not the first time Sotw has made me go and buy something I don’t want or need but after reading this article I started looking on eBay and the next thing I knew I had bought a Metro. Oh no!Oh no I've just bought a Metro thanks to this weeks sotw! Update to follow.
It must be close to 25 years since I last drove a Metro and on pickling this up I have to say it was no where near As bad as my memory was telling me! It’s actually a good little drive and just shows up how big and bulky modern cars have become,
About the little car - it’s everything I wouldn’t want - 5 doors, only a 1.1 and came with no mot having been sat for almost a year. Even worse it’s not even a real Metro it’s a bloody Rover 100.
But, it’s a remarkable one owner from new with full history and low mileage - only 45,000 miles. The elderly chap had clearly looked after the car and he didn’t want it to get scrapped so I saved it. Photo below with its one previous owner in the passenger seat took him for a quick spin / last run after we got it jump started.
The mot didn’t require much at all, one misted up headlight, a cut in a tyre and the rear brakes needing adjusted up.
Not sure what to do with it, we might put a VVC 160 engine and uprate the brakes but otherwise leave it standard for the sleeper effect.
At least it’s a nice colour - anyone want a Metro?

Apparently Adrian Newey was running 300bhp from a 1400 turbo k. I understand the smaller engine is a lot stronger. It’s such a shame Rover couldn’t have afforded a bigger block for more capacity rather than stretching the k to its limits. Or better still an extra cylinder...
