Stoopid over-styling inspired by my first AIWA stereo aside (3-disc-rotary changer! Dynamic Bass Boost! Argos p553) , that's quite a nice bit of kit, innit.
Imagine arriving somewhere in that spec though. What if someone you know is already there, do you just sit and wait until they've gone?
Not much point in getting there so quickly if that's going to happen very often.
I agree, its disgusting, plainly not aimed at previous AMG customers like myself. I really dont understand the current Mercedes interior scheme which is somewhere between Nana’s coffee table and Amstrad. That said the 5 ‘Sport/ M’ is pretty gaudy too, so maybe its just the global market.Imagine arriving somewhere in that spec though. Not entirely sure why that causes aesthetic alarm.

I am surprised that it would be viewed as disgusting. What is it in particular you don’t like ?5000 miles in and I am finding I really like the interior, it’s comfortable, well built and the infotainment works very well. I am not sure what is gaudy about black leather and black ash. Oh and the fairy lights can be switched to more subtle colours or indeed off.
Having had a C63, CLS 63 and GTs previously it didn’t put this sample of one previous customer off

If the red stripe can vanish then you're half way there, it lacks any subtlety or a specific theme.5000 miles in and I am finding I really like the interior, it’s comfortable, well built and the infotainment works very well. It's as big as a whale...
...is the lyric that runs through my mind when I see this.
M-Bs were a bit bombastic back in the early 1960s, but never as crass.

Interior or exterior ?It's as big as a whale...

I get that folk don’t like lots of lights and digital bits in interiors but am genuinely struggling with how a grey estate car is crass.

The droopy-whale exterior - and the interior reminds me of those chrome-laden yank-tanks of '59/60. Though it's mostly silver rattle-can paint now...
Maybe I'm just stuck on the restraint of the Paul Bracq-era cars.
And the ueber-restraint functionality of the Bruno Sacco era ones.
Not that I'm singling-out M-B individually; most seem to be pandering (panda-ing?) to Chinese tastes these days and I find most modern cars deplorable.
Just M-B in particular, in the light of their heritage.

I don’t see the droopy whale on the outside but we all see things differently. Personally I think the estate is subtley handsome and clearly follows the MB large estate lineage.
The interior in my car is, IMO, lovely, high quality, functional and comfortable with lzero resemblance to a 60s Bakelite special tank tank. Yes the LED lighting in the press shots is garish but that’s easily remedied. Worst bit in the article pic of this car is the unpleasant silver finish all over the steering wheel which the full fat AMG version doesn’t have.
It’s fashionable in certain PH quarters to slag off modern cars and their design but functionally and quality wise the current Mercs are on top
of their game.

Pleased to read that the quality has come back - I'm still haunted by memories of the fiascoes associated by the Daimler-Chrysler era cars.
As long as you're pleased with it, is all that matters.

But that's a grey estate car in naff look-at-me paint, covered in non-functional silly willy-waving magpie plastic bullst. It's a few decals away from being the pace-car for the Indy 500.
To arrive in that is to proclaim loudly "Look At My Diffuser!"
And the person you say it to is either impressed with your diffuser, in which case you shouldn't be talking to them at all, or the person Already Knows Your Diffuser Doesn't Work, which should make you want to climb into the wheelarch of the nearest bus and wait.
Cheesy indeedy.

I've been watching the new A Class YouTube vids and in terms of technology, gadgets & gizmo's, Mercedes are on a roll. Wonder if this has all the "Hey Mercedes, cool my seat, open the sunroof" stuff?
Although at the rate of change, it'll probably be outdated by Christmas.
Agree. Got my first ever Merc last year. The e-class estate and although the same shape, sadly not as fancy a version as shown in this topic but it's handsome, very frugal (I've seen 60mpg), and exceptionally comfortable. Love it. Mercedes are killing it with their interiors right now - a lovely place to be.Although at the rate of change, it'll probably be outdated by Christmas.

I had better send mine back then given I committing such a horrendous automotive faux-pas or at the very least wear a paper bag with eye holes cut in so as to avoid the huge embarrassment I have thus been oblivious to
