I'm in the market for exactly this kind of car, but for virtually the same price you could get a 3.0 Z4 which seems a much better car in every way. Had they of depreciated off a cliff like you'd expect (as in - how every other "European" American car does) I'd be more interested!
A 3.0 Z4 is 4 grand and up, would never pay anything like that for a Crossfire now, I cant imagine they change hands very often at that money.J4CKO said:

These were basically crap when new though, and age hasn't helped.
Cheap wheels, but being based on Merc underpinnings and quite rare, bills will be higher.
Not for me.

No they're not. A mate got one for less than £3k recently, and there's half a dozen, excluding the Cat C, on Autotrader for less than £4k.

A colleague has one. An SRT6 version imported from the US.
320bhp std. He has changed the SC pulley and a few other things and its not a million miles off 400bhp. Sounds good too.
I wouldnt have one, but I can appreciate its a pretty cheap and easy way to a quick car, as well as being pretty much unique (which counts for a lot, IMO).
Rather one of these than everyone else in their photocopied 1000 shades of grey Audi TT.

I was wrong.
Recently I let Alex Kersten from Car Throttle drive my 03 Sapphire Silver Coupe for a video review... he wasn't keen.
BUT!
That doesn't bother me nor should it bother you, it's a very capable cruiser and a smooth puller in a straight line. Plus at car shows, a clean one can and will stand out from the crowd, getting all kinds of attention (much of it actually positive). So for under £5k you can't go wrong with one, it looks great, sounds great, drives well (minus the steering), is well screwed together (minus the interior), its bulletproof for mechanical reliability, not terribly expensive to run and has a big boot in coupe form. Buy one before they go up in value because they will be a a future classic.

I've always liked the look of the Coupe (I just don't like any roadsters) but back in the day a 2-seater wasn't a realistic option.
Now that it is I've got a Z4 Coupe as I think it looks even better, and is probably a more sporting drive.
But if I was looking for a cheaper replacement I'd give one a go - but pre-06 with that CO2 figure!

It's a dreadful car driven by dreadful people.
Not a lot of love going on here. Personally, the Crossfire's on road presence is sufficiently rare to allow me to accurately form a generalisation regarding the type of person behind the wheel. However the well looked after metallic blue one a couple of doors down from me, is owned and driven by one of the mildest mannered, most unassuming car owners I know. Pericoloso said:

Bless you, how did you cope - particularly as you don't even seem to have a TT in your
He does own a TT.I do need to update my garage.
I coped fine, until I got home and cried myself to sleep on a Jeff Banks futon, drinking Taboo and lemonade whilst crying to a Dido album.
I had 5 happy and trouble-free years with my convertible, and they are definitely not expensive to run, other than servicing I think I bought an £80 water pump for mine over the full ownership period.
They are a cracking car to own and drive, and they draw a lot of attention, the roadster also has a far prettier ass, unlike the coupe which Clarkson famously insulted.
The only thing to watch out for is bubbling paint on the rear arches, they have a poorly designed arch with an inner lip which acts as a mud trap, it's easily fixed by a good body shop and going forwards if you keep the arches hosed out properly it will be fine.
I paid around £5500 for mine in 2013, drove it for 5 years in all conditions including snow (which it handled with no drama) never spent a penny on it other than servicing, tyres and disc pads, and then reluctantly sold it on for £4200, only because I was buying an Aston Martin and already had another car in the garage too, if I had the space I would have kept the Crossfire, it is one of my best motoring experiences of my 40 years driving, so if you fancy one get it!!

We delude ourselves thinking Clarkson is THAT influential, he thinks he is of course but doubt if his remarks had any effects on sales.
Yea yea I know Vauxhall love him not for dissing the Vectra but the car was still a major seller to Mr Average who just wanted an average car.
The Crossfire car is a bit of an oddball which is it's appeal & I note how many owners have to spend a lot of energy defending their choice by repeating it's really a Mercedes underneath. Of course deep down what they really wanted was a 'proper' Mercedes so the Crossfire is the poor mans compromise.
