But if Clarkson is right then a Bugatti Atlantique is also representative of the archetypal mid-fouling canine. No-one seems to be concerned about that.
ahhh - but that's different because it's not 'American' In 2015 I paid 6 grand for a clean, 2007 convertible with 42k on the clock. For the same money I'd have been looking at a much older Z4 or TT and with a smaller engine.
I also liked the fact most people hadn't a clue what it was and generally assumed it was worth a lot more than what I'd paid for it. Driving around London on a private plate you'd still get a few people asking you what it was or taking a good look at the car.
I recently moved property and needed a car that's good for DIY stuff and garden waste, so was sad to see it go.
The only real drawbacks are (i) running costs; tax is £500 and it does maybe 20mpg around town (terrible compared to modern sports cars with much faster 0-60 times) and (ii) parts are hard to source. You can generally get engine bits from Merc dealers as most of it is shared with the old SLK, but body parts would likely be a nightmare.

I’ve had one of these for a month now!
I wanted something to replace my SLK, searched for 2 seat convertible, over 200 bhp under £3k. amongst a few more SLKs, BMWs and Audi’s, this stood out. Got it for £2,900! Absolutely stunning condition and drives so much better than the SLK, feeling much more ‘planted’ on the road, especially at high speeds!

Lovely, and being an 05 plate you've avoided the £600+ a year road tax. I've always had a soft spot for them, especially the Coupe, but wasn't sure about the running gear coming from the first generation SLK that didn't have rack and pinion steering so it's interesting to know you find it drives much better than your SLK.
For anyone who likes the looks they seem a bit of a bargain!
