"Backed by 664lb ft of peak twist from 1350rpm, an exponential rate of acceleration is often achieved virtually by default. At anything approaching conventional speeds, the W12 is apparently no more heedful of the GT's kerbweight than a hippo of its hide. That's as it should be: why else fit or buy a 12-cylinder, turbocharged engine unless you're minded to waft fiercely and relentlessly toward some distant location? The only quibble one might cite - and this is to do with the 'exhilaration' end of Crewe's proposition - is that the car seldom feels ballistically quick. Prodigious, yes, and doubtless capable of its claimed 3.6 second 0-60mph time - but not necessarily in the maddening, moreish way that compels you to repeat the feat purely for its own sake"

Good grief Cackett, put down the thesaurus. There's a good article in there but it's difficult to digest at times, for a simpleton like me.
This. I had to give up reading. Just too much fluff.

I like the car. They have improved the design and it looks very smart in that colour.
Glad it wasn't just me, why even write like this? Are you trying to look clever? Who runs the editorial here might be worth sending out a non-grandiloquent version for the other 99% who find this style a chore to read, and i don't mean that on ability to read, just this style makes it harder than needs-be.
Nic Cackett writes the theme toon, edits the theme toon. He's the boss.
Wonderful.

I had a good look around one a couple of weeks ago in the dealer's, it was interesting comparing this new one to the previous model which was also on display, I still prefer a few details on the older car but the new one is spectacular to see in the metal Bentley have done themselves proud with this car.

If I ever become wealthy enough I'd buy a Continental GT over everything else.

They have one in the Newcastle Bentley dealership in the same blue.

I have to say they are quite magnificent, it makes an Aston DB11 feel like a Passat from a quality perspective and everything feels like it's cost a fortune (which is good as they do cost a fortune) but it has that air of ostentatiousness you would expect of a Bentley.

Visually, they are stunning.

Same roof line and window shape, even the integral little lip spoiler.

About as different as a Lincoln/Ford/Mercury on the same platform.

I'm sure the Bentley's interior is far better biggrin

I much prefer the new rear to the old model, I remember someone once said that the rear looked like Vanessa Phelp's arse and I've never been able to get it out of my mind whenever I see one. It does have a resemblance to the Audi A7 which I guess is no surprise considering who owns Bentley.
I like it overall and have it earmarked for a definite purchase when it falls off the depreciation cliff edge.

In my opinion the best looking modern Bentley ever. The interior is incredible, they've really knocked this one out of the park. I've had a look around at my local Bentley dealership and it is stunning. There is a planned V8 coming next year and I think the reduced engine weight could make a good car better. I'm considering it as a replacement for my Vanquish when the kids get too big.

For me it is the new front grill and it's positioning and corner radii that jar. Somehow it looks like it has been badly Photoshopped in every photo. Not that it has but somehow it give that impression.

Verbosity for the sake of it.

Agree, A7 rear end.

hehe the whole idea of "marmite" is you either love it OR hate it....not a bit of both!

Ah, it must have been at least 5mins since we had a new vs old comparison on PH.

Not sure Bentley will miss your custom, mind. What did you think of a new CL600 when that came out? Was that too expensive? News flash....unless someone buys a new car, 2nd hand cars wouldn't exist smile

I think modern Bentleys have had an arse problem - ok at the front but awful at the back. This new model corrects that (in my eyes) - much prettier at the back.

If I was in the market - my heart would say DB11, head would say Conti. The interior looks far better than the old one - and better than the DB11's, which has more than a whiff of fisher price in its design and clumsy interpretation of shapes.

If Aston sorted the DB11's interior and Bentley tidied up the front a bit - would be a very close match...

My four year old seems to have redefined the phrase similarly to Balmoral in that he swings from loving it to hating it.

I’m sure he’d ruin the back seats of a sumptuous automobile just as soon as his Dad remarries well*

  • Naturally this is never going to happen. For all manner of reasons. (Don’t worry George).

I saw quite a few of these in & around Crewe on Saturday 14th April; the first one was in blue, and there were a few 'safe' colours, followed by the last one in gold. They did little for me to be honest; I've been prototype & press car spotting since I lived in Munich in 1993, but these follow firmly in the footsteps of the old model. Nothing to see...

Everyone is telling you to get your eyes tested. They have two door. Thats where the similarity ends.

I love it. I think they’ve done a fantastic job aesthetically, and that interior is surely the best in its class. Some of the details, such as the option to have engraved air vents and the detailing on the indicators are a step above even Rolls-Royce levels of detail.

Wonderful!

It may be me getting older but that's the best looking one I've seen, IMO they've nailed the styling.

In fairness the Conti has been a huge success for Bentley they were never going to rock the boat with the new one. It has sold around 6,000 ever year since 2003 put it into perspective Aston just got over 5,000 total last year and its a record year for them.

So I guess it's a case of if it's not broke don't fix it.
