Peugeot for me. I love it. Even that small steering wheel!

We have both in the family and for me the Peugeot wins every time, but then I would say that....

Great comparison. My OH has an MP215 and I really like its character - it’s like a little Jack Russell of a car! Sounds like the 208 could be a good replacement when that time comes.

I had an ST MP215 and adored it, changed it for a M235i and that was a big error

Orange 208 GTI PS arrives Wednesday and I'm genuinely excited, despite owing far faster and more expensive cars

I'm interested to know how the M235i was an error? Would have thought it would be a significant upgrade?

Spending that type of money, negotiate you can get an s1. The audi s1 walks all over these two. Ok the kit on both will be superior, but its no point when the engine is nowhere near as good and you are dust on a b road Fine if you like the looks and gadgets, but you will l be dissappointed when alongside an s1 performance wise...and dtuk tune them to 300+bhp also😨

I'm an ST owner but have driven the S1. A friend had one as a courtesy car and I got the opportunity to give it a blast, without need for mechanical sympathy smile

Being 4WD, obviously the 0-60 is much better than an ST and the way you can just dump the clutch and go is a bit of a giggle. However, the package just doesn't compare to the ST in terms of driver involvement or fun, in my opinion. Once you get over the acceleration from a standing start, you're carrying around the extra weight of all the transmission gubbins everywhere, and you can feel that in a small car.

To me, the S1 just felt too sanitised. After over a year of ownership, the ST still goads me to wring it's little neck on every journey. I suspect I would have long since tired of the S1 and convinced myself I needed an S3 or a Golf R to find the rush again...

Great engine, sat nav, wobbly handling

Not in the same league if you want a fun to drive car imo

Horses for courses though I just love small mischievous cars nowadays rather than German stuff

Peugeot all day for me, with the added bonus no one will think you’re likely to be a nob head when they see the car coming towards them.

No mention of the overly hard ride on the ST ?

Probably the reason why I would take the 208...

I genuinely don't understand comments like this. There are just as many yoofs driving Peugeot 206s around my way as Fiestas, so I cant understand why someone would think a 3 or 4 year old Fiesta ST would be a complete chav chariot compared with a Peugeot 208 GTI.

I guess it depends on where you live. Nearly every ST round here is modified (Hampshire) I don’t think I’ve even seen a 208 Gti in the wild.

The downside is that you'd be driving an S1, though.

I've had my 208 GTI 30th for over two years now, the driving position felt strange for about the first mile when I test drove it, after that it became intuitive. Being tall works to my advantage as with every car I had before my height caused the steering wheel to block a portion of the dials from my view. Swings and roundabouts isn't it?!

My issue is not seeing over the wheel. It’s that when doing so, I feel like I’m driving some kid’s chubby car with a toy steering wheel in my lap. I personally think it sucks, and no one saying it doesn’t will change my mind. Luckily there are other cars to choose from smile

I lowered the wheel so I could see over to the instruments and it was fine. Unless you're short or have a short torso it's not a problem.

The small steering wheel is great to use, suits the car.

I’ll never grow to like that steering wheel setup in the Peugeot.

What did you get from McDonald’s?
You'll be pleased to know we made it just in time for breakfast lick So a double sausage and egg McMuffin, obviously.

The Peugeot all day long. The Fiesta really is a horrible looking thing inside and out. And who wants to drive a fastish Ford - the chav image is second to none.
We can't all drive snoozemobile posers BMWs, some people actually enjoy driving.

"Who wants to drive a fastish ford" ? Errm lots of people, they probably have the biggest following of any manufacturer in the UK.

For me it would be too close to call between these 2 cars but I'd probably prefer my megane to either.

"the driving position is even more awkward, there's more turbo lag and the gearbox is baggier - but don't discount it: this little Peugeot remains on of the best hot hatches on sale."

Apart from the typo, how do statements like that get the green light for publishing? From those three negatives, it sounds like the worst hot hatch on sale!

I went from a Boxster to an ST3. I miss the Porsche but as a commuter car, the Ford makes so much more sense. Cracking little machine. Love it.
