Ford really have this car down pat. Pretty cheap, far far better interior than last, better ride, still loads of fun, tunable and with cheap parts.

Hence why we see loads of them and hardly any hot Clios.

If I was 20 again.....

PS I think the only downside is that they took away some of the 3 pot thrum to make it more grown up and smooth. Mistake, make it thrummy with more character !
I'm quite curious to hear what it sounds like when it's running on 2-cylinders.
Putt putt putt putt from the outside smile

On full boost, it sounds properly angry too.

I doubt you'll hear it since you'll be barely breathing on the accelerator at that point.

Why are they offering 2 choices of silver sleep how many hot hatches actually sell in silver? It’s boring. Should have at least one interesting colour thrown in like the old ST225 Orange or even the new Tangerine scream off the latest Focus ST just to separate it from the identical ST Line that I’m seing everywhere with ST badges normally stuck on the boot by the idiotic owners

I’m absolutley sure that in today’s market this is perceived as ‘good value’.
Makes me feel old, but my first new car was. Fiesta XR2.
Sunburst Red, with alloys, sun roof, tinted glass and up-specced stereo, it cost me £6000 on the nose.
Sold it after a year for another new one, in Nimbus Grey, that too cost me £6000.
I got £5400 for the red one, not bad depreciation for a years worth of fun.
My current car has loads of tech, but I sometimes look, through rose-tinted specs, and ask myself do I need sat nav, abs, pas, asc etc etc. Times were definitely simpler back then (and more dangerous in a crash of course) but I’d rather have an xr2 than this.
Mind you, the way prices are going, they could end up at the same price point soon...

Your £6,000 in say, 1986 translates to £17,340 in todays money once inflation is factored in

http://inflation.iamkate.com/

Just checking drive the deal there based on mooseracers post and they'll sell you a brand new ST with performance pack for £17,240

www.drivethedeal.com

So £ for £ todays car is amazing value, give the extra power, spec, safety features compared to your original XR2 smile

I used to drive MK2 FIesta XR2's quite a lot, they had a certain go kart sort of charm, they were slightly brisk but the CVH wasnt really a very nice engine, drive them back to back, remove the Rose TInted specs and then see which you prefer, 88 vs nigh on 200 bhp, there is no contest in every area, it is called progress. I can appreciate a well turned out 80s XR2 but the novelty would wear off pretty quickly.

This new one looks great.

How much was a packet of Space Raiders in 1981 then? Makes me smile when people don’t understand the concept of inflation.

Triples always sound amazing. Even the boggo 100bhp triple I had in my old Fiesta sounded great smile

ST2 looks to be the one to have.

Then I look at it and think...Peugeot 208 GTI it is then...

Funny how in another thread the top of the line 1980s performance Ford homologation special was 204 bhp (ok, 224 bhp for the RS 500) and now a Fiesta is knocking on that power figure, and costs less than the Sierra cost 30 years ago.

1k more than the new gen Suzuki SS. Looks like someone in Tokyo can now pull out the red pen and price the Swift properly at 16k, which they should have in the first place.

I wish people would stop comparing the new Swift Sport to the Fiesta ST, the ST-Line is the direct competitor to the Suzuki as both cars are 140ish bhp.

Performance wise, there is not much in it compared to the MK7 with a Mountune pack.
A standard MK7 makes the same power on overboost, or if it's a Yankee model. I'd expect a Mountune pack car to be faster.

The blue used on the launch photos of the GT and Mk3 RS was 'Liquid Blue', but as Mafffew points out this was never available which is a shame as I think the Mk3 RS looks great in it. The pre-release images of the new Fiesta ST appear to use 'Liquid Blue' too.

I'm a big fan of 'Performance Blue', but I'm biased smile Anyway, glad to see it back!
I asked the same thing (with pictures) to Jay Ward on Twitter - Ford Director of Product Communications based mostly in England - and was told it's Performance Blue. I've questioned that...

Yep, I’m waiting to see what the mountune version puts out first before ordering and also is like to know how much it lighter it is

Looks like a fantastic car, It’s just to reel me into buying it has to be a little faster than my 215

Disc lock as standard equipment or are Ford hoping to shift a few more units to replace the cars that get nicked ?
