Performance wise, there is not much in it compared to the MK7 with a Mountune pack.
A standard MK7 makes the same power on overboost, or if it's a Yankee model. I'd expect a Mountune pack car to be faster.
I think the Press cars have the trick diff fitted, though, which is an option.
This test concludes it's not as much fun as the old car and less revvy at the top end. It also strangely suggests taking the value for money base model, even though nobody wants to touch a fabric-upholstered last model ST1, with a barge pole.
Overall, it seems arguable this is an advance, at all.
Another test iIviewed said it did an average 38mpg, much the same as mine already does.
So it seems that to get a fundamentally "improved" car, the optional diff is required?

The Mk3 Focus RS was a level above the Fiesta ST on security (don't think there's been a single reported ODB theft of the Focus) so there's no reason to think that the same levels won't be adapted on this new Ford.

It would be really nice if the journalists could ask Ford about what they are doing to improve security. I had my Mk7 ST nicked and I really don't feel like buying another one without the reassurance that something has been done. I appreciate that no one can publish details of what has been done, but an acknoledgement of the problem, and a briefing on what has been done in non-specific terms. Sadly it seems journalists just turn up, drive the press cars, absorb and re-print the press pack and don't ask any useful or challenging questions for fear of being left out from future launches. I guess I'll just have to talk to the dealer, but I suspect that will be a waste of time as well :-(

I must be getting old when thinking that £19k for a Fiesta is actually pretty expensive (rather than cheap)!

Definitely you getting old.

£14,000 in 2003 would be £19,300 now when just taking CPI in to account.

Funny how in another thread the top of the line 1980s performance Ford homologation special was 204 bhp (ok, 224 bhp for the RS 500) and now a Fiesta is knocking on that power figure, and costs less than the Sierra cost 30 years ago.
Make a good press comparison test as Ford have a white 3-door RS in their Fleet that gets wheeled out a lot. It would have to be a Mordor version for an 18k price comparison

3dr Cosworths were around £17k new, RS500's around £20k . LSD standard fit.

Blue, Red, and various shades of non-colour, so same as pretty much every other regular car on the market then.

I do miss a good bit of colour on the roads, I had hoped for a slightly out there option even if cost a few quid extra.

So if this has pops bangs and launch control does that take some of the sting out of the MK 3 Focus RS which is more expensive at 3 years old than this is brand new? Plus better interior and more mod cons in this new fiesta than the RS?

Decent spec (nearly all options) ST-2 5dr with performance pack seems to be just under £22K on drive the deal.
Similar price to a Polo GTi+ after discounts.
However the Polo is only available with DSG at the moment and will be at least £1k dearer than the manual option.

Looks like Ford might have to discount a bit further!

I did Drive the deal quote last night and:
ST3 3dr
Performance pack
Pearl - Performance Blue
B&O premium sound
Door protectors
LED headlights
Panoramic Roof
£21,567

So that's fully loaded and seems a decent price to me.

From the specs and optional extras though I've spotted what appears to be a really daft decision..

ST2 - B&O is standard with Nav as an option
ST3 - nav standard with B&O as an option....

Pretty sure most people would prefer the B&O over the nav and will feel aggrieved paying for the B&O when it's included on the model below. The Sync3 headunit has apple car play and android auto so almost everyone would have the ability to use their phone for the sat nav displayed through the screen so the ford Nav isn't really much of a boon.

Also has anyone been able to find any pics of one in this Pearl - Silver Fox colour? I'd like to know what it looks like before ordering performance blue. I wouldn't consider the standard Moondust silver I don't think but intrigued at the Silver Fox option

I asked the same thing (with pictures) to Jay Ward on Twitter - Ford Director of Product Communications based mostly in England - and was told it's Performance Blue. I've questioned that...

Hmm, interesting. Well I hope they haven't messed around with Performance Blue, even if that new shade is rather nice!

Yep, I’m waiting to see what the mountune version puts out first before ordering and also is like to know how much it lighter it is

Looks like a fantastic car, It’s just to reel me into buying it has to be a little faster than my 215
It's not a lighter car than it's predecessor, just the engine that is

Have you seen quoted kerb weights for the outgoing Mk7.5 ST vs MK8? I was also under the impression savings had been made on weight with the engine and rear suspension setup so expected overal weight to be lower.

Also re the quicker than MP215 the MK8 is quicker than the limited run ST200 which is afaik pretty much the MP215 with couple extra bits.

Why? Do you think Ford's supply will exceed the demand?

It might take a year but eventually it will. The old model ST was available at substantial discounts for much of its life.

I’ll be surprised if the Fiesta isn’t the better car by a clear margin, and I don’t mind paying a slight premium for a better product

I'm sure it will eventually but the post carried a heavy suggestion that the Polo is the better product.
