What I'd like to know is if you can have a custom combination of settings for steering, throttle, exhaust etc. and can you turn off the silly electronic engine noise completely?

Have you seen quoted kerb weights for the outgoing Mk7.5 ST vs MK8? I was also under the impression savings had been made on weight with the engine and rear suspension setup so expected overal weight to be lower.

Also re the quicker than MP215 the MK8 is quicker than the limited run ST200 which is afaik pretty much the MP215 with couple extra bits.
I must admit I thought I had but now can't find the reference. Time will tell I guess.

It might take a year but eventually it will. The old model ST was available at substantial discounts for much of its life.
There weren't substantial discounts from Ford dealers when I was buying, it was only brokers that had big discounts. And I still had to wait a couple of months for the car to be built. I'm not convinced turning cylinders off to manipulate emissions and economy figures, and turning up the boost to compensate for losing a cylinder and capacity is hot hatch progress.

Triples always sound amazing. Even the boggo 100bhp triple I had in my old Fiesta sounded great smile
Yep, the old 955i triple that Triumph used in the late 90's and early 00's is one of the best sounds in motoring. Their triples still sound amazing today but not quite as good as the 955i.

It's growing on me, value for money and as an overall package I think it will be difficult to beat. I still don't like the rear styling but having LED lights and the performance pack would be a must have.

Is there any mention of a Mountune pack, similar to the last ST, that would also be a must have for me personally, I think I might seriously look into leasing one next year.

Does anybody have pictures available of the difference between the 17" & 18" alloys?

No mention of a Mountune pack as yet.

Alloys from what I've seen ar identical just a bit bigger.

Do you know if this is using a symposer, or speaker system? If its got the same one as the old car (symposer) you can just unplug it.

I unplugged mines from my old ST3 and hated it after 5 minutes so plugged it back in, I thought the old car had a proper rorty sound that was pumped into the cabin.

It may well have something along those lines but also it's a digital system through the speakers. Reports of it have actually been positive in the reviews as being better than most other manufacturer efforts.

Hahahahaha silly me, I meant what country, is it British? European, German or American, I doubt it’s the latter

Looks really nice in Magnetic but I need to see the proper promo shots in all the colour options.

That does look rather tasty in Magnetic. But I’d have mine in Performance Blue. Just because I’ve had the Mk5 ZS in Imperial Blue, the Mk6 ST in Performance Blue and the Mk7 in Spirit Blue. I like Blue.

Really does make the Swift Sport seem expensive for what it is IMO.

I think in 2.5/3 years once my Corsa ‘Burg is paid off I’ll be looking into these ST’s. With the LSD obviously.

Think I'll sit out on this one until tuning potential is revealed, 240bhp in my MK7 so sadly going to be a let down if not much room for tuning on this.

The Auto Express article refers to it as "Electronic Sound Enhancement" so I assume it's something like BMW's "active sound design". Thankfully you can code it out on the BMW system or remove it from the sound signal via a harness. Hopefully you could do the same/similar with the Fiesta preferably for free...

I'd be in for :-

Fiesta ST-2 £19,995
Performance Pack - £850
18 inch Alloy Wheels - £350
LED Lights - £600

= £21,795

Maybe a 10% discount when all the dust has settled?
This ^^^ plus the Montune kit that will no doubt arrive in due course

Though I don't like the looks, I am swayed by that Magnetic.
I would therefore be grateful if all you lease jockeys would order that colour so I can buy it for half the price, at the end of your money flushing spree, should the urge take me....it might not but you never know.

Not the powdery blue though, that's going to be worth a lot less.

I’m absolutley sure that in today’s market this is perceived as ‘good value’.
Makes me feel old, but my first new car was. Fiesta XR2.
Sunburst Red, with alloys, sun roof, tinted glass and up-specced stereo, it cost me £6000 on the nose.
Sold it after a year for another new one, in Nimbus Grey, that too cost me £6000.
I got £5400 for the red one, not bad depreciation for a years worth of fun.
My current car has loads of tech, but I sometimes look, through rose-tinted specs, and ask myself do I need sat nav, abs, pas, asc etc etc. Times were definitely simpler back then (and more dangerous in a crash of course) but I’d rather have an xr2 than this.
Mind you, the way prices are going, they could end up at the same price point soon...
Your £6,000 in say, 1986 translates to £17,340 in todays money once inflation is factored in

http://inflation.iamkate.com/

Just checking drive the deal there based on mooseracers post and they'll sell you a brand new ST with performance pack for £17,240

www.drivethedeal.com

So £ for £ todays car is amazing value, give the extra power, spec, safety features compared to your original XR2 smile

Fully agree, and obviously prices have to be adjusted etc.
Personally, I can live without 200+bhp (funny when my standard family diesel estate is over 150bhp and I don’t feel the need for more on most occasions) despite having owned several cars with over 400bhp
The old XR2 had a crappy engine in reality but 96bhp was useable most of the time and I actually had fun driving it.
Yes the roads were less congested, hardly any speed cameras etc.
Could I live without all the tech? Yes
Could I live without the airbags, abs etc? Yes but probably not survive (!!)
My choice on a daily basis would be the newer car probably as much for its safety over the XR2.
But I’d still enjoy the older car, much like my RS2000 and Mexico; ask anyone who owns one of them and they will say, that in modern terms they are slow, noisy, not economical, etc etc but that doesn’t stop people wanting them.
