RE: Ford Fiesta ST: Driven

Why all the sarcasm at my expense? Yes its new but apart from that I cant see what it offers over a similarly priced 3 year old RS?
Are people that afraid of 3 year old motors that they'd pay the same for something inferior on paper just to say its new? Or are we seriously saying this car is better than the RS?
Because the price of a used car is irrelevant really. What's the point in getting a used Focus for that price when you could get an even more used Lotus? Are people that afraid of 3 year old motors that they'd pay the same for something inferior on paper just to say its new? You can take your argument on and on and on. Ultimately you're not comparing fairly. You could get a three year old Fiesta ST for even less, so therefore no one should buy a new one. For example.

Plus I don't think there's such thing as a 3 year old focus RS is there?!You can take your argument on and on and on. Ultimately you're not comparing fairly. You could get a three year old Fiesta ST for even less, so therefore no one should buy a new one. For example.
Always tricky for a manufacturer to make the next model after such a successful car. Mk 1 and mk2 golf Gtis were hard to choose between and then the next 2 were shameful . To be fair old fast fiestas were crap and can’t believe the prices they demand now . Are they available in 3 door or are they going to follow the 5 door focus trend ?

I don't think you're being fair JR. Someone in the market for a Ford hatch that puts a smile on their face, is quick, has pops and bangs, launch control, drinks fuel, various drive modes - the two cars are very much comparable. Including in cost now. The only difference is one is 4WD, quicker, basically does everything the ST does but better ... but it's new so that's what people should want apparently? Put a private plate on your RS if it bothers you that much what the neighbours think and you have neighbours who think a new ST is better than a 2 year old RS!!!! Bringing up a used Lotus is unfair. You can take your argument on and on and on. Ultimately you're not comparing fairly. You could get a three year old Fiesta ST for even less, so therefore no one should buy a new one. For example.

A used focus rs will not come with these benefits. It’s the same reason people pcp/lease any car.

Not to mention that it depends very much on how you buy them. A 3 year old car is typically bought HP or personal loan but a new car is typically PCP so the monthly cost is less for the new car. The Focus will have higher running costs for fuel/insurance/maintenance/aftermarket warranty if you don't modify it etc etc.
That's ignoring the fact that some of us prefer the Fiesta to the Focus because it's more fun.
Amazing that people still don't understand the difference between old cars and new ones.
I'm looking forward to driving one of these. I was a bit worried that the addition of drive modes and the like might tarnish this new version and it does appear that they haven't really added anything positive. It's a shame that manufacturers insist on making cars more and more complex, just for the sake of it.

Is that a dig at me? What is the difference, prey tell? FYI a 2 year old RS probably still would be going out as a PCP and with 5 year warranties they still have 3 of those left. Lots of Ford dealers are knocking out used RS cars on PCP hence my original point. But yes if it's new it must be better by definition. Excuse me while I go purchase a new Aygo then go tell my neighbour that I have something superior to his 3 year old Gallardo because it's new and thus by definition infinitely superior. Where are you getting a 5 year warranty on a Ford? Presumably you are paying for additional warranty, so that's another cost you've decided to ignore. If this review was for a new Focus RS would you be trying to convince people to buy a used Mercedes AMG? Where do we draw the line? You do realise that if nobody buys a new car then there won't be any used cars?
You also keep quoting 3 years Focus RS prices. Care to go find one? 2016 is as old as they go which makes it 2 years to me and the cheapest one right now on autotrader is £25k. That's a not even close to the same price as the new Fiesta ST.

If I were in the market for a fast Ford at this price bracket I'd go RS Focus every time.
Exactly. I don't get why someone would be like 'I would like a fast Ford hatch that pops and bangs and has a launch control so I'll go for the Fiesta not the Focus'. Do people really put such a premium on a number plate number compared to actual performance, it's laughable. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
