If I were in the market for a fast Ford at this price bracket I'd go RS Focus every time.
Exactly. I don't get why someone would be like 'I would like a fast Ford hatch that pops and bangs and has a launch control so I'll go for the Fiesta not the Focus'. Do people really put such a premium on a number plate number compared to actual performance, it's laughable.
This guy doesn't get. We'll leave him to it I think.

Will it be a rusty mess after 3 years like all Fords!
My last car was a 7 year old Ford and my car before that was a 9 year old Ford. (Age when purchased). Neither had a spot of rust on them.

My current car is a 2017 Audi S3. It has much more 'performance' than the fiesta but I am seriously considering the switch as I would like to be able to 'play' without travelling at licence losing speeds.

AWD 300bhp+ cars are fantastic in theory but you can't deploy full throttle for more than a couple of seconds when already moving without hitting 3 figure mph.

Why all the sarcasm at my expense? Yes its new but apart from that I cant see what it offers over a similarly priced 3 year old RS?

Are people that afraid of 3 year old motors that they'd pay the same for something inferior on paper just to say its new? Or are we seriously saying this car is better than the RS?
Maybe people want a brand new fiesta and not a 3-year old RS?

I will hang on to my 2016 ST2 and enjoy it's less sanitized driving experience! I am 56 years old and the new ST is all grown up too now, so I'll keep what I have and maintain an element of youthfulness!!

I really wish PH would put a gap inbetween paragraphs.

Pity about the flywheel, piped in noise, drive modes and crappy steering. A car like this doesn't need to be mature either. Sounds like a buzz killer really.

Some may say the interior is more modern but the stuck on iPad is no improvement in my eyes. Give me a tiny screen I can't notice and somewhere to put my phone instead.

It also looks like st and am disappointed to see so many Mk8s on the roads already when the Mk7 was, in my opinion, quite a smart looking car. Is the Mk8 considerably larger or is it just a trick of the eye from its fat arse?

If it pushes down Mk7 ST prices even further then at least this car is good for one thing.

I'm just confused. Ford had a winning formula and then chose to make changes to areas nobody complained about (except the interior).

Nah, I can buy 8 Mondeo ST220's for that price and it still has the ST badge and then I would get 1760bhp, a set of V6 engines and still have change for petrol.

This PH cliché never seems to end about how much used cars you can get for new so no one should buy new.

Makes no sense on the pricing when you can buy a 2005 plate 552bhp Bentley Flying Spur 6.0 Saloon for the same price, this will only appeal to people that want new cars and they don't exist

They also did the Si in 1.4 back in the early 90's

The Aygo would be superior over the dirty used Gallardo. The Gallardo would be tarnished, farted into, have loads of rolled boogies flicked all over the interior, dead skin, semen stains, faeces, insects etc.

Amazing that people still don't understand the difference between old cars and new ones.

I'm looking forward to driving one of these. I was a bit worried that the addition of drive modes and the like might tarnish this new version and it does appear that they haven't really added anything positive. It's a shame that manufacturers insist on making cars more and more complex, just for the sake of it.
Is that a dig at me? What is the difference, prey tell? FYI a 2 year old RS probably still would be going out as a PCP and with 5 year warranties they still have 3 of those left. Lots of Ford dealers are knocking out used RS cars on PCP hence my original point. But yes if it's new it must be better by definition. Excuse me while I go purchase a new Aygo then go tell my neighbour that I have something superior to his 3 year old Gallardo because it's new and thus by definition infinitely superior.

that's a great looking motor

there are numerous lines, curves, compound curves, and other elements that come together; there's a tremendous amount of added value in design today -- when the OEM puts their minds to it

quite a contrast to the slab-sided "refrigerator door" aesthetic of some past eras

Aye, I've never heard an owner of a MK7 saying they wish it had a fizzy 3-pot and more grip. All it really needed was the the same, maybe slightly tweaked and modernised engine shoved into the new lighter and stiffer chassis. Would have saved them a fortune on R&D and still have sold just as well!

I don't think you're being fair JR. Someone in the market for a Ford hatch that puts a smile on their face, is quick, has pops and bangs, launch control, drinks fuel, various drive modes - the two cars are very much comparable. Including in cost now. The only difference is one is 4WD, quicker, basically does everything the ST does but better ... but it's new so that's what people should want apparently? Put a private plate on your RS if it bothers you that much what the neighbours think and you have neighbours who think a new ST is better than a 2 year old RS!!!! Bringing up a used Lotus is unfair.
You don't understand though.Compare a used Focus RS to a used Fiesta ST on price, not used to brand new. The brand new car will obviously be more expensive for what it is - that's just the nature of used cars.

What's the price difference between a two year old, 20k mile Focus RS and two year old, 20k mile Fiesta ST? That's a comparison you can make.
