I'm not sure I really like reviews like this; because a car ought to be reviewed against its peers in EITHER price, OR performance (call it fitness for purpose). In this particular review, we see two cars that are not priced similarly, nor are they close in performance either. That lends to an indirect comparison, which then opens up a whole can of subjective whoop-ass.
I guess in their defense they're saying you can't order a new TTRS at the moment, so how does the nearest thing stack up?But of course yes, you would compare a TTRS against a Cayman S, an M2, and now the new Renault A110
For me the decision was the noise, my initial passenger ride went through a tunnel and I instantly knew I wanted it.
A few days before I'd gone to Cambridge Porsche to order a new 718 Cayman S.
It was supposed to be a special day, but when Don fired it up I knew instantly it wasn't for me.
So with the Cayman out of the picture I can say the M2 came very close, in fact now my TT's gone I'm now eyeing up a new M2 Competition, if the order books aren't full of course.
I also considered the 4c until I looked inside.
Another if you don't need creature comforts are the Elises.
Back to the TTRS
It really is a very good car and I'll miss it, especially the sound between buildings, and of course, tunnels.
But try not to get too sucked in by the 3.5 to sixty time as I did.
Yes it'll do it thanks to a clever launch control, but midrange there are plenty of other cars just as quick, or almost.
In my view it wasn't supercar quick once rolling. After all, a 277hp power to weight ratio isn't that high.
Sadly I'll never buy another Audi, the dealers really are bad at acknowledging any faults with their cars. Once six months had passed they just ignored me.
