My girlfriend was hit by a driver with no lights on who fled the scene (presumably drunk).

The car behind my girlfriend had a dashcam which proved they had no lights on.

I had the car tracked down and did all their work for them, and the police (Cambridgeshire) did absolutely nothing.

fking pathetic.

So what have you done since, they've done nothing? Anything at all? Or aren't you allowed to state on here?

If the penalty for this is less than drink driving then isn't it a win?

What would they be looking at?
Trouble with drink driving is you need to prove it, most of are assuming it was that or racing but without actual proof (dashcam footage etc) then it would never go anywhere.

So if they did get done for the other offences then yes it is a win in that they dont get away with it completely.

My guess is it will be much less than they would get .

Being able to afford decent lawyers will no doubt see them get some points and a fine.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out for them..

Didn't I read in one of the linked 'articles' that one of them has a suspended sentence pending?

She's called the collisions department and along with her insurance company they are urging them to look at it all again.

I've told her kick up a fuss on their Facebook page and said I'd start a detailed thread on here, if they are still too fking lazy to pursue a slam dunk case.

I'm a local and as an educated guess I'd say it's entirely likely they came along the viaduct, onto the roundabout to take the motorway. I've done this many times myself, the underneath of the viaduct is popular for 'tunnel run' type things and coming from that direction if you hit the first set of lights on green you can carry some serious speed onto the motorway slip road. Being a duel carriageway it's popular with boy racer lots.

Given the angle and camber of the corner it's entirely plausible that you could carry too much speed onto the roundabout and make a mess of it. The running away is standard drink driving fare.

Apologies for the Daily Fail link, but it struck me as worth posting amid the pages of speculation on this thread;

A few years ago a woman was all over the road, ran a people carrier off the road and made off. Myself on my bike and another driver boxed her in at the next lights. She reeked of drink and locked herself in the car when the guy tried to take her keys.

We were blocking one lane of a dual carriageway in evening rush hour but the police had 'no resources'. We said we'd wait as they'd have to come out and sort out the traffic. Other driver in the people carrier also arrived, upset children in car. We kept calling the police, 'no resources'. Husband of the drunk woman had arrived as she'd called him and he was deeply apologetic, "I told her not to go drinking regularly with colleagues at lunchtime' comments. After an hours wait still no police so the car driver in front said he had to go and as he moved slightly, she made off.

That just ended up as an insurance claim. Police showed no interest in attending frown

Oh well, obviously Tom has spoken to his lawyers and decided to fess up, still no indication as to why the disappearance post crash so that should be interesting to hear.

Looking at those slightly better pictures is it maybe telling that the Porsche' rear active spoiler is stuck in the upward position? What's that, 76/78mph?

Directly from the Porsche owners manual:

"Automatic mode

The rear wing extends automatically at speeds above approx. 75 mph (120 km/h) and retracts again below approx. 50 mph (80 km/h)."

That article seems strangely worded, unless its just me.

Are they saying that Tom Hartley was the driver of the porsche and he returned to the scene and they are now trying to establish who the driver of the ferrari was, or that the driver of the porsche is not being named and they are looking for Tom Hartley who is assumed to have been driving the Ferrari?

All I read is that Tom Hartley Snr - Carl's dad - has confirmed that Carl was driving the Ferrari.

The Hartley chap always struck me as a bit of knob.......

clearly he now feels he has to prove it beyond all reasonable doubt.

I'm sure some highly paid greasy lawyer to the rich and famous type will get him off with 3 hours community service in the fullness of time......

What offences could the drivers be charged with for this?
depends.

But - leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident at the very least
unlikely

Guy at work a few months ago was subject to road rage, car rammed his to make him stop, scroat attacked him, then drove off when he started to lose, witnessed by half a dozen people and was filmed

over a grands worth of damage to associates car, and even thou scroat was filmed driving off and did not report it the police response was "not enough evidence"

what do they need, a signed confession ???
