I’ve got the original brochure for one of these tucked away at my
Parent’s house.
I’ll have to dig it out.
iirc two standout options “fitted at extra cost” (as Ford used to say)
Included Connolly leather and Wilton carpets.
At the time this was pretty off the wall outlandish, an acquired taste yes,
But it would have turned heads just as much as any 3 door Sierra Cosworth when
New.

Back in my Capri days a chap I bought a load of trim from had a white one of these in a leaky garage buried under a mound of dust and parts - always did wonder if it ever left under its own steam. This article is inspiring me to stick another Reader's Cars thread up but nobody wants to see a collection of cheap 1.6s, although I did graduate to a Cosworth-engined version before both my available lines of credit and patience expired

Yes, you're right on the overboost coming back as often as you want.Surely there HAS to be a warranted Mountune kit for it?!

I think the Tickford had a fancier ignition system and turbo plumbing than the Turbo Technics 2.8, but it wasn't any faster. Sometimes I used to run an extra 3lb boost on my TT Capri, pretty sure it reduced that 10 secs to 120mph.S100HP said:

Lasted 6 weeks before I sold it. I didn't appreciate old motoring back then.
I remember seeing well over 135 coming back from a track in a friend's Capri .......the 1.9 205 had long run out of breath somewhere behind........and the other friend's 4-speed 911 Turbo had vanished somewhere into the horizon I had a 1986 Capri in about 2004. it was white with an awful bodykit too. Got pulled over on the Avenue in Southampton, clocked at 86 (was a 40). The copper let me off as he was impressed I managed to get a ratty old capri to go that fast!
Lasted 6 weeks before I sold it. I didn't appreciate old motoring back then.

I'm not surprised they couldn't sell many though and not just the price or the fact the Cosworth had arrived, the Capri had been around for 20 years and was really out of vogue by then.
OK I was about 13 when this was built but I thought these were tacky when they were new but then the only car I ever liked with body kits was the Fiat 131 Abarth. Greater Manchester Police retired their last 2.8 Capri patrol car in 92I had a 1986 Capri in about 2004. it was white with an awful bodykit too. Just 12 years prior to you being stopped.....it could have been by a 130mph Capri police car!
My grandfather worked at Salmons then Tickford then AM for over 50 years from 1914 until 1969. Heres a pic of the original Salmons Coachworks building , which I think part of still stands as the AM entrance. Havent been to Newport for years. Also a cutting from the local rag
