20 years ago, a colleague had one in black. The colour suited - hid - the lines of he bdy kit. He was rather flattered when i recognised what it was. He told me most people thought it was just some tarted up old Ford, which i suppose is strictly true.

Is it wrong that i like the Metro picture above?

Probably. laugh

I had my first Capri 2.8 Injection in 1985, but after a year I had to sell it for a house deposit. frown

But a couple of years later I bought my next one - unfinished business!

Then the 90s dawned and the obvious replacement (a Sierra Cosworth) became uninsurable. frown

I might have looked for a Tickford, but back then they were stupidly expensive for the limited extra performance they offered and the bodykit was so "Max-Power"!

A work colleague's dad had a Turbo-Technics XR4i - but sadly I couldn't afford one of those either so I ended up with a Granada Scorpio.rolleyes

An internet myth, I ran one from 1990-2003, never cost me more than £500 a year to insure fully comp with the Co-op.

Or a reality myth - I was paying about £200 to insure my Capri 2.8i. (And the internet hadn't really been invented then)!

I could have bought a Cossie for around £3K - but £500 to insure it didn't make financial sense to me!

Greater Manchester Police retired their last 2.8 Capri patrol car in 92

Just 12 years prior to you being stopped.....it could have been by a 130mph Capri police car!

Just look how much better the motorways look too, 3 big lanes and a hard shoulder. No cameras, no 6 lanes at 40mph, just a proper straight forward stretch of road. Capri seems to be about still, albeit SORN'd.

My Dad's boss had one of these to replace his 635csi. It had power issues for the first few months until an apprentice at the garage spotted a fold of carpet under the accelerater. The had only been able to get half throttle up till then!

His boss left and my Dad had it for about 6 weeks. I was impressed as a twelve year old, as were most of my friends. It was a baby Aston as far a we were concerned.

I would love one as a weekend car, certainly not for 50k. But a decent 2.8I is 20k at the moment, the fast fords are about 5x overpriced imo. As a 17 year old me and a couple of mates bought a mk2 Escort for £8 for a field car!

Perfect excuse to show a pic of the related and rather nice (at the time) Frazer Tickford Metro
My Mum had one of these when I was young and I thought it was the best thing in the world! Ours was no. 13 finished in bronze (only one I believe in this colour) with full cream leather. It had the most amazing looking stereo but engine wise it was nothing special!

I’d buy one just for the nostalgia

Someone bought an old 250 GTO Ferrari for a few k in the early 70s..... what are they selling for now?

Most old ( and a lot of new ) cars are overpriced to people on PH
Buy something else instead that will likely be cheaper, newer, faster, more economical. Either that or buy the overpriced ones when they are cheap!
