For someone who didn't have much time, you sure took a lot of pictures! Keep um coming, some glorious metal there.

As for the chance happening upon a car show, what a wonderful thing to happen, and the review if the white knuckle ride down amazing French roads sounds epic, love the fact you say you were scared instead of pretending to be a powerfully build director of a driving god.

This thread delivers!
Thank you Swampy.

In these threads (and whenever I'm asked in general by people admiring my cars) I always make a point of saying I don't consider myself a great driver.

I love cars, I waste fortunes on them to be honest, it's my great weakness but I'm really not an expert. I'm always amazed at the level of knowledge and experience from many PH'ers and wish I had it but basically I'm a chancer. When I do drive fast, like this morning, I make sure it's only me that will be getting my kidney wrapped around my ear if it all goes wrong.

I'm constantly embarrassed by people approaching me in car parks who seem to know everything about my cars, "This is the one with the up and over flange capacitor isn't it?" they say. I never have a clue, I just stare blankly at them or pretend I'm late for a hospital appointment.
My worst nightmare is the bloke with a Ferrari cap in Tescos car park, he's an expert on everything, if I see him coming I run and hide.

Grossglockner is about 4-5 hours east of your route in Austria if you're going through Leichtenstein.
Ah right cheers.

I looked at loads of Alp crossings but they all seemed a bit out of the way. Coupled with all the reviews saying they are basically crammed with cyclists I wasn't that bothered.

Nothing against cyclists by the way, I cycle myself, but I'm not going hours out of way to sit behind a peleton or whatever it's called.

I notice you do a lot of Euro trips Peri, it's too late this for this year but I'd be interested in your recomendations for next time.

My latest thread is dying in travel forum, with few comments on it.

I recommend the Mille Miglia wholeheartedly, follow it for 4 days ,for 1000 miles.

I've never actually done that but following the event for even 50% of it is just heaven.

To add what I posted above,I saw a Mac on British plates in Btescia on the 16th ,the day the MM started, possibly following the event.
He won't have been the only one.
Everything from a FIAT 500 to cars worth £Ms are there for the greatest road race in the world.

Love the attitude almost as much as the thread...

If you ever want to chew the fat with a Like minded " love the cars but don't understand the minutia of detail" guy, then I'm your man...

Great update, I would love to be able to do something like this - might have to bump it up the list. My daughter works for McLaren so loves hearing about anyone driving the cars 'properly' wink

These get their own post cos it was my favourite thing at the whole show.
Really fancy buying one of these but I know it would probably be hard work.
I'm old enough that this was my first dream car.

Still more...
Excellent, I was just flicking through thinking, what, no Lotus? I've always had a secret yearning for one, I don't know what it is about them.

I've had some issues with this one rasto which I'm not going to go into on a public forum but I have to say that when you just want a raw experience of complete insanity with all five senses bouncing off the limiter then there is nothing better than a Mac at sun up on a deserted French road!

Just to clarify, I've had a Lotus, I tuned up a K series Elise to make 200hp NA, it was a great drive, nothing was more involving than it. But the Europa, it isn't what you call beautiful, if you had to describe its looks you'd call the striking at best, but for some reason it just floats my boat. If I ever get to the stage I can have a fleet of cars it would be on my list, that an original mini.

What is this thing and how can I get one?!?!?

It's more French than a shrug from a retreating onion seller.

Oh and awesome thread and awesome Mac.

Zoomed in, it says Peugeot Talbot. If the stickers are legit (which I'm guessing they are!) it's a Samba Rallye.

Anyway, let's not fk up a fine thread with tosh about an old Frenchie (especially if anyone knows the history behind the blue Alfa 156!)
