A supercar owning 458 person said to me today “Classics are for people who can’t afford supercars”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or pretend to nod in agreement. I did dare him to post on Ferrari chat or Pistonheads and try to educate him about not just the new cars but also the classics. I highly doubt he will post will see.
Not only that he wants to buy a new car because his mates Lambo Hurucan is 0.2 second quicker than him from the traffic lights. I tried to explain to him so what if someone quicker it doesn’t mean anything. Couldn’t get through to him and he was diverting off topic as he was losing the argument.

He was asking me for “advice” on whether he should upgrade his 458 to 488. Not sure why he would ask me. Lol
I said personally I wouldn’t I keep the 458 or well change it to F355 Manual, 575M Manual, 360 Challenge Stradele, F430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale or F40, F50. However, those are too old or too raw and can’t be used everyday like a 458 according to him. Not sure how true that is as he uses a bmw as his everyday car I think. He is only interested in new things. Even dismisses a McLaren F1 as possibly the greatest hypercar of all time. Looks down on bmw classics like E30s. The guy makes me laugh. He got quite angry when he saw this thread. Pathetic really.

A lot of classic Ferrari's are worth a hell of a lot more than a mere 458 plus have a damn sight more class as well.
Classic ownership is not all Morris Minors and VW beetles. (Which can still be worth loads)
Recently read a thread about a Beetle that was worth more than a 458 (got to admit I was a little surprised about the value, rare early car)Classic ownership is not all Morris Minors and VW beetles. (Which can still be worth loads)

A McLaren might be up his street - modern, fast, “flashy” doors (faster than his mate’s Huracan too)I said personally I wouldn’t I keep the 458 or well change it to F355 Manual, 575M Manual, 360 Challenge Stradele, F430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale or F40, F50. But let's face it anyone paying over 458 money for an ancient decepid bronchitic Beetle simply confirms they have more money than sense furthermore value does not equate to driving pleasure or ability.Could always buy a proper supercar modern 'Beetle' for that money anyway.
New supercar v classic?
A no brainer for new supercar.

The Beetle is way rarer and cooler in London though. If I walked passed that I’d smile at seeing the Beetle and the Porsche would just remind me that you’re never too far away from a dentist, accountant, estate agent or junior broker in London. Could always buy a proper supercar modern 'Beetle' for that money anyway.

But by mentioning the Beetles rarity and perceived cool value from others are you not simply pandering primarily to what others think rather than from a drivers/owners involvement perspective of which the GT3 (RS) is unquestionably the better and way more capable car on so many levels?

Fair enough if thats what you think that confirms the stereotypical view in London at least.

Er, I’m merely pointing out that in London one of those cars is rare and cool and the other is ubiquitous and normal.
