The premise of the chap in the original posting is that to "win at life" means to accumulate more cash than others and/or be seen to by as many people as possible.
"Winning at life" is a phrase that amuses me, it suggests that life is game and you're in competition with everyone else to "out do" them. Usually resulting in a shallow existence of portraying a flashy image and pseudo-wealth. The people who are genuinely wealthy often "portray" their wealth by driving some old snotters and don't give a monkeys about what others think. Edited by nickfrog on Sunday 27th May 16:04
But very unlikely, given what OP said about him

The two categories - classics / supercars - are so dirrerent that the question is pointless. The occasional classic may blur the distinction but generally they are not comparable.
Do supercars not become classics when they get old then?Lester H said:
Yes, DD but there are few of them.
Not sure I agree with that.
As a child of the 70s and 80s I would look at things such as :
Maserati - Merak, Ghibli, Khamsin, Bora, the various BiTurbo iterations
Lamborghini - Miura, Countach, Espada, Jalapa, Uracco, LM002, Diablo
Ferrari - 246, 308, 328. 348, 400/12, 456, Testarossa
Porsche - 930 Turbo, 959, 928
Then the smaller concerns like De Tomaso, Monteverdi, Iso Rivolta etc
It’s a long old list !

It's ironic many comments here show the same judgemental nonsense as those in the OP. If you like cars then it doesn't matter if your a Porsche, Fezza or Classics man. Each to their own. Im often mystified by people's choice in car but, hey, we're all different.
This.Except for the mystified bit. I dont really care at all what strangers (or friends or relatives for that matter) drive or why (or how), let alone care enough to be mystified by their choices.

Since I can’t afford a super car, I guess he’s right.
But then, I like my classic car.
It’s got character and history in buckets.
I have an old Land Rover series 1. It’s an old trails car, so has been off roaded and upgraded over the years with various other Landy bits.
I’m now faced with the dilemma of what to do with it.
Restore back to a more road going spec, or go for trials spec and bring it upto 2018 spec for safety etc.
It is a head turner though and demands concentration when driving as nothing is power assisted.
