Group C car 2 seconds quicker than the IOM Impreza on a 46 second run up the goodwood hill. https://youtu.be/cKoIPEhF7sQ?t=44m7s
I remember that a very special drive. Group C - imagine if they reintroduced that wonderful class today.

No one is using a sim to prove anything. When someone does it for real, that will be proof. Until then, simulators these days are used to practice, fun, and giving a decent idea of the sort of pace to expect. Don't confuse them with playing GT on your PlayStation.
Yes, the course is challenging and unforgiving. Which is Why quite so many have lost their lives round it. That has absolutely no bearing on how fast a car could go round though.
Say that to F1 teams and they will correct you. Yes, the course is challenging and unforgiving. Which is Why quite so many have lost their lives round it. That has absolutely no bearing on how fast a car could go round though.

As has been said quite a few times, that Subaru is nowhere near as fast as a car could go
But it was developed for the challenge and had almost 700hp. What would this mysterious bike-beating car look like? Perhaps PH should design one?It has been stated that the car had 600bhp

Nope, rumour is it was making closer to 700hp and the limiting factor was the tyres. It has been stated that the car had 600bhp

Today Hickman did a 134 mph lap on an essentially box fresh, out of the showroom superbike whilst MD did a 129mph lap on a 600cc commuter.
The car just got gayer.
It would be interesting to see what say a M140i or Audi S3 (the ones always on mega special cheap lease deals) could manage out of the box. The car just got gayer.
Given a Rover 827i Vitesse 179bhp and 125bhp/tonne managed 100mph average lap I wonder what the M140i would do with 227bhp/tonne.
0-100mph 25.3 seconds for the rover or 10 seconds for the M140i
You’d think it would be in the 110-120mph territory

The Subaru was running trick suspension a standard M140i would run out of ideas at the bottom of Bray Hill, I'd say 110mph at best.
Lol. I’d wager it might get close to 120mph average.
Remember that 2014 year run of he suburb it lost its brakes for the last 1/3rd of the lap.
The M140i is 14 whole seconds quicker to 100mph than that Rover 827i vitesse.
You might assume the Tomcat Rover might be good for 104 to 106mph.
A Megane R26.R might be a good shout too

Yes, not sure I would fancy wrestling my M135i for that distance at full pace, they are a car best enjoyed at 7/10ths, or 10/10ths in a straight line, in the dry, if the tarmac is nice and smooth, in short bursts.
Be interesting the see if it was faster though, the BMW is a lot faster in a straight line, wonder if the Renault's more capable chassis would redress it being a lot slower ? Would actual cornering speed be that much slower or would the driver just enjoy the experience less ?
In essence hard the exact same debate on bikes v car. Car is quicker round corners bike accelerated faster and higher top speed. This is 4 wheel v 4 wheel but is the power gap too big a gulf to bridge.
Nankook. Remember the Rover Vitesse 827i 174bhp a throbbing 2.7ltr v6 power plant.

Re the Tony Pond Vitesse, that car was far from standard and I was involved in screwing it together a very very long time ago. Tony Pond RIP one of the very best peddlers. RE an M240i that would be absolutely crap and would struggle to get much further than Glen Helen before its brakes and suspension cried enough, 120 mph average LOL not an earthly chance. The Subaru was beautifully prepared for the job by Prodrive and driven by possibly the best man in the world to do the job and it's still a fair way behind. A Porsche GT3 RS or a GT2 RS near standard and off the shelf is the best comparison to today's stockers and it's not going to get near to 134MPH average. Hats off to the bikers, massive respect to you guys, ride safe.
What were the main changes made?Straight through exhaust
Slicks
Striped out interior and roll cage
