Unbelievable! I was going to put my dash cam in the disco before I went away, might have caught some interesting footage. On the other hand I expect they would have smashed my windows and knicked it to get rid of the evidence of it was seen.

If ever there was a good comparison between a punishment based justice system, and the lefty liberal rehabilitation system we have in the UK, then that is it. smile

I asked earlier in the thread, but you probably missed it.

But, I presume you have checked your spare wheel is still in place?

A soft spot on D3/4's unless protection has been added.

Yes still there thankfully!

I wonder if they are knicking the wheels to order as it seems a bit odd to be taking insignia wheels. They may have several ebays adds showing different wheels for sale, once they get an order go take some to suit?

Over here in Switzerland I can do the same as the chap in Dubai. I can also drink and go to a brothel if I wish.
It has nothing to do with living in a punitive state, the Swiss won’t chop your hand off if you’re caught taking someone else’s possessions, you won’t get into trouble if caught with a bit of cannabis, yet people remain honest.

Each time I return home I feel like the UK is getting closer and closer to a 3rd world country. I used to think France was dodgy for that kind of petty crime but now I feel the French are more honest. It’s sad to see.

Good to hear yours is still there!
Do you have a protector? Cheaper than a new winch and spare wheel and tyre!

I saw a CCTV video recently of a Merc Vito having its spare stolen in a few seconds and it's a very similar set-up to the D3/4's.
(I have a D3 and had a Vito...)

You may well be correct that some bits are stolen to order. There's certainly no shortage of 'spare' wheels etc on Ebay.

No I haven’t, I’ve had a couple of discos now and so have my parents and no issue with them being knicked to date. I think it’s only a space saver on mine so don’t think it’s that desirable.

It’s just a lottery, a mate in the next village had the entire exhaust system taken off his LWB sprinter while he was away last year.

You also get royally fked for any single minor motoring offence so it’s not exactly progress.

So, if it is possible to have a non punitive liberal style of control that works (Switzerland), then in what way are we doing it wrong here in the UK ?

I genuinely believe there's a policy to make everyone miserable here, keeping the working masses stuck in a horrific time poor/money poor existence and kept compliant with punitive fines in areas where it's easier to tax an issue than provide a solution to it. Take infrastructure in the UK, it has been reduced to obscenely slow and expensive political hot potatoes (HS2/Heathrow), smart motorways and cycle lanes no one actually uses.

Commonsense has died an utter death and you genuinely can't do anything without offending someone whether that's a one-person 'think tank' (which the Press automatically asks for comment if the opposite view is mooted), faith organisations, HSE, PETA or anyone else who has an agenda. Meanwhile you have a government (all levels) made up of people without any damned experience (or even intelligence for some) who don't understand they represent all of us - they're far happier putting another tax on families just trying to exist (London charging zones/Khan) than dealing with the big issues like mopeds and knife crime (attributable to people who'll never positively contribute to society or the tax man - it's not about these criminals lack of 'opportunity', they're just fking s that don't deserve to breath air. And finally, our poor police force has to comply with all the rubbish above despite fewer numbers and with the removal of most support services - they are nothing but social workers now. Even if the police do get convictions, judges just hand out lacklustre punishments - prison is more a hotel than a deterrent.

Right now, if you work hard, have nice things, are middle-aged and white, no one gives a damn (we could all burn to death in a block of flats and only our tax contributions would be missed - in this climate some might even celebrate our downfall). I'm just waiting for the moment we all fking lose it or the police come knocking given posts like this - god forbid someone says something on the internet that doesn't tow the line.

I'm off to eat a creme egg before Jamie Oliver, TV chef and someone who shouldn't be setting policy (like any celebrity), tells another Select Committee I shouldn't...I fking want to Jamie...I pay for my own healthcare and it's the only enjoyment I get from this dire life right now you fking fk.

I would always worry that the lower orders of hotel staff on pathetic wages could be in collusion with the local scum so a quick phone call reporting that some dude has parked his wheels & there might be easy pickings very possible
Plenty of signs saying hotel not responsible for theft or damage.
CCTV probably a joke, may not be working & in any case thieves/vandals likely to be hooded & not recognisable.
Plod has no time or manpower to bother investigating as it's hardly mass murder.
Buy a flash car to massage your ego or just show off to friends & neighbours by all means but don't moan when it's nicked or vandalised such is life in Britain today.
Wow !! What a C0ckwomble comment to make. If anyone works hard and rewards themselves with a nice car, they are just buying it to show off?

And you honestly believe if something worked hard for is vandalised or stolen, the owner shouldn't moan?

What a guy !!!

On a largely subconscious level yes, the desire to be "better" and have higher status than others is human nature and anyone who doesn't realise and identify that nature within themselves, probably doesn't realise why they behave a certain way or why they buy certain things.

When you feel want something, ask yourself "why" and then question your answer with "why", do this ATLEAST 5 times and you'll be somewhere close to the truth.

Not convinced its in everyone's human nature
Surely many or most people are content with where they are and what they have.
Just because someone else has something, doesnt mean theres an inherent desire to have it too
Didnt that trait disappear at about 4 weeks
