RE: Ferrari 488 Pista: Driven
Discussion
I’ve never really understood the apparent distain for super rare cars that are almost impossible to come by, and then sell used for crazy money. The unatainability is what makes them special. If you need to have been Enzo’s best man in order to get an allocation slot, so be it. If you weren’t, then move on and something else. If you’re not good enough for that car either, then buy a Mondeo and suck it down
Some people act like they’re entitled to everything they want.

Unlike the Speciale the Pista is a limited production run. They won't ever be list price for anyone who hasn't already been given an allocation.
Pista will be £350k+ on the open market, probably more like £400k I think in the short term. Pista Aperta when it inevitably appears another £100k++ on top of that.
closer to 400 for sure, you can easily spec one to £300k+Pista will be £350k+ on the open market, probably more like £400k I think in the short term. Pista Aperta when it inevitably appears another £100k++ on top of that.

Quite seriously, what were you expecting? The 488 is already a hugely capable and quick car and far more so in many respects than the 458. that the pista is a sharper and more exciting to drive version of an already awfully good car isn't enough?
It’s not about what I was expecting - I was just reading between the lines of Matt Priors review to answer a question from a fellow poster. It’s clearly a wonderful car but maybe not as radically different as Ferrari’s PR team made out when they revealed it at Geneva.
Prior clearly thought it was great but he was also managing expectations a bit.

Overs on these cars will be massive.

Am I reading this wrong or is the general tenet of this story is that the Pista isn't wildly different from the 488?
Which is at odds with the way it was presented at launch a few months back, where the Pista was presented as a thorough re-working of the base model.
Is this just so much spin or does a different understanding genuinely emerge from journalists actually driving the car rather than paraphrasing what Ferrari say in the press release?
Well, it’s no secret that Ferrari effectively blackball any journalist with the temerity to criticise their cars, so Prior’s implication that this is ‘a good car made a bit better’ rather than anything more radical is probably as far as he can go without his future invitations disappearing.Which is at odds with the way it was presented at launch a few months back, where the Pista was presented as a thorough re-working of the base model.

The people that buy this car WANT it in the same way the people that buy a GT2 RS WANT that car - this isn't cross-shopping a Honda CRV against a Toyota RAV4.
I have to say that evo's review of Andy's P1 GTR really illuminated what can be done with a turbo engine. They basically said that the P1 doesn't have a tuneful, melodious engine but it is very characterful with the turbos hissing and so forth. A shame that Ferrari don't realize that an FI engine can never have the character of a NA engine despite all their attempts to disguise rather than highlight the character of the turbo (of course I haven't driven a Pista nor even a standard 488 so this is all hearsay based on magazine tests)

..So we probably have this year's runner up for ECOTY if they do it properly this time, the winner being the 991.2 GT3RS.......
..Cant make up my mind if this would be my current Ferrari entry to my dream garage, or the Ferrari Superfast
This does look sensational but the Superfast has an NA V12 engine - a configuration that probably wont be around for much longer! ..Cant make up my mind if this would be my current Ferrari entry to my dream garage, or the Ferrari Superfast
