I’ve just put a deposit on a Jimny commercial, which should be here in the next 1-3 months. The dealer found out yesterday that they are only getting two cars for the remainder of the year (400 in total for the UK).

It'll never depreciate.

Some talk of the Jimny coming back in 2024 as a hybrid.
We shall see.

I don’t think it’s fair to say Suzuki ripped off the G Class design. They were building small off-roaders for years before the G Class was released.
That's interesting - I'd assumed the g-wagon predated the Jimmy by quite a bit, but I just checked and the Suzuki Samurai/Jimny dates from 1970, and the G-Wagon from only 1979. I'd assumed the G-wagon was much older and the Jimny much younger!

Are they actually that popular? As I can’t remember the last time I saw one on the road and I don’t think I can think of a car I want less IMO.

i saw today funnily enough very small, looks like a shrunken g class, and different to other cars out there i guess, would prefer an actual g class, or ignis, don't think i would pay 20k for one, probably why they are selling so few, the real demand isn't there.

I know my local dealer could have sold loads more if they had the stock.
And look at second hand prices.

I see quite a few of them going about here.

I went and had a chat with my local dealer when they first launched and even then he said I had no chance of getting one.

I'm not sure how you can say they don't sell well when they sold out almost instantly and no has really been able to get one since!

They stopped selling them 'cos emissions across the range, you'll not find one for £20K, they've yet to depreciate...

G-Wagen goes back a few years earlier, it was designed in 1976 to a German army requirement that was won by the VW Iltis.

Production started anyway in 1980, with a plan to sell 9,000 per year on a non-contract basis. It really only gained traction (ha!) when it won the French competition against the Iltis.

if you pay more than 20k, then you are a loon. Probably cheaper to get it imported and get the turbo engine in there.

You were just talking pish. No one will import and get a turbo as no one wants one, remember?

if they thought people would but more than a few 100 a year they would make it possible, it not like Suzuki doesn't sell 4 other similar models is it?

Swift 4x4, ignis 4x4, Vitara 4x4, Grand Vitara 4x4.. erc. If you want a smaller car with higher prose tag then you can buy one sure.

Surely Suzuki can re engine these and start selling in big numbers?
I’d love one but not at what they are going for at the moment.
We’ve had quite a few SJ/samurai models and they are bloody excellent cars.
Nothing can touch one of these in the snow!!
I’d still have one of the old ones if it wasn’t for the utter pain in the arse getting even the most mundane of spare parts for them.

Demand isn't there? Haha, good one. That'll be why some dealers have 200 people on a waiting list and even two year old ones are selling for £5k over their cost new.

Good luck finding one sub-£20k at the moment and why would you want the turbo engine? It's a tiddly 660cc unit and only available in the narrower JB64 Kei car.

I'm beginning to think you don't have the faintest clue what you're talking about when it comes to Jimnys.

Sukuki sell 30-40k cars a year..

VX for example sells that in a month.

Because you think it is the bees knees doesnt translate to sales, and it is a niche product that may be great offroad, but will never be used off road. it is a kei car so very small by uk standards

there may be a 1k waiting to buy but that is not every month, and clearly Sukuki doesnt see a point in trying to adapt it to the UK market, as it has the other cars in it's range.

Plenty of them going about here in the Scottish Borders, lots of demand, and most get used at least a little bit off-road. They are used by proper country dwellers and workers who don't need/ can't afford a big 4x4, vets, fencers, shepherds etc. You can't get one of the current style for anything near £20k, and even the old style which are at least 3 years old can go for "new" prices.

You seem very invested in your campaign against the Jimny! I have no use for one as I need to tow but why do you hate them so much?!

I don't hate them lol. But I think people need to take the blinkers off. I always liked the old Jimmy, and pretty much all of the Sukuki range are great value cars.
