The Metro 6R4 had one of the most distinctive sounds in motorsports , a sort of flat gutterall bark that improved with pops and bangs when turbos were added .
Its the most amazing sound up close it genuinely makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up, I have been out in practice sessions at Lydden with 6R4's on track with us and the noise as they blast past is incredible. The Metro 6R4 had one of the most distinctive sounds in motorsports , a sort of flat gutterall bark that improved with pops and bangs when turbos were added .
The regular Clerk of the course at many of the recent rounds (Andy Stevens) was one of my trainees when he first started .
I was talking to Whitstable Will a couple of months ago , the guy with probably the best 6R4 ever .

I wouldn't really describe the noise as flat or guttural , but more the perfect example of that tuneful howl of other racing V6s. The closest I've heard to it is the divine Ferrari Dino 246 , the Grand Prix car which was the last front engined job to win a GP (not the similarly V6'ed road car which was lovely but not as sonorous.) coppice said:

Did you ever stand in a forest at night or on the Col and listen to the same engine as fitted in a Lancia Stratos howl through a rally stage....? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
