Well no, some R32s had the nice bucket seats, they look more special and they are AWD. I agree the GTi is generally more fun to drive but they re not better "in every single way".

Generally speaking, the older the better. Improved performance from newer vehicles doesn't seem to come into it. Ford XR vehicles in general are probably not a bad investment if you can maintain them.
