As has been stated by all motoring journalists that have compared the two !
Except EVO Magazine. From memory, they usually went for an Impreza in any comparison between the two. I still think the EVO 6 was the standout model. I bet 20 years down the line it would keep a Golf R honest along any back road. I also remember Vicky Butler Henderson lapping one quicker than one of the later EVO models on a race track, which I thought was cool.

In the dry I think it could be closer than people imagine. In 2007 Autocar took a group of cars to the Millbrook Alpine Handling circuit, which is a good approximation of an English B Road. The EVO X beat a Megane R-26 F1 (the regular one not the R26-R) by only 1 second on a 1 minute 53 second lap. Given the Megane was 60BHP down on power that was quite close really!!
In the wet, or anything less than dry ideal conditions, obviously no contest!!!

That Golf just looked all at sea there. I thought there would be more than a second in it.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jyTjggB2S5M&vl=e...

These cars are outrageously good down a back road and really shine beyond the limit. There is nothing like them.
I shed tears when I sold my last Evo in 2007 and have not driven one since....but dream about one regularly!
Agreed. Nothing like them and nothing comes close IMO. Their competency under changing road conditions is nothing short of breathtaking.I shed tears when I sold my last Evo in 2007 and have not driven one since....but dream about one regularly!
