Do you think it would be a good idea if members of the public were allowed to drive around in cars that looked like police cars?

I've never understood the attraction of horses. No good as pets, not much use as transport or working animals since the car and tractor were invented. Sports involving horses aren't my cup of tea either.
Each to their own though, and if someone prefers offroading on horseback rather than a motorbike or 4x4, so be it. At least they are quiet. If they need to use a road to get to their chosen muddy track, fair enough. I'll slow down, give them a wide berth, or hang back until they pull over if the road is narrow.

I'm not so patient with the types who dress up and chase things on horseback though. I used to annoy them regularly when I worked around Northants and Banbury. They acted like they owned the place (which they probably did). Always got what I took to be a cheery wave when I passed by.

I don't, but then again the horsey polite walts aren't either, only to a cursory glance, anyone fooled for more than a few seconds needs to go to specsavers.

Lots of stables & riding schools around my way, horses are always out on the roads. Very courteous I find if you give them plenty of room and slow down.

We also have a few who dress as the above and are very self righteous, behaving as if they are the local mounted section. Infact the i’m led to believe the local Police disapprove of them dressing this way!

I have never understood the hatred for these. What harm are they actually doing?

If you need to adjust your driving because you see these, you are doing something wrong.
I think the dislike is because there is a special type of knob who goes out on his motorbike being a 'road captain' and trying very hard to look like a policeman.
Got to agree.

How do we feel about cows on the road, now that we’ve got horses sorted?

Not just the local police, IIRC there was a stroppy letter put out by a national police authority that resulted in the Polite jackets being taken off sale

There's a few places here where cows have to cross the road. Not a problem for me, as it's an essential part of local farming, and it tends to be on the back lanes.
Horses are different, as it's a non-essential leisure activity.

I’ve had them in my garden. Escaped from the neighbouring farm. Quite scary. They ain’t small beasts. Turns out cows don’t like Runner Ducks who kicked up a right kafuffle. The cows left smartish.

Cows rarely seen to spend time on roads.

Sheep, bloody love the tarmac, nice and warm.

But worst has to be kangaroos!

My grandfather came round a bend and hit a cow on his motorbike back in the 20s. He came round with broken legs and the bike embedded in the side of the cow. Mind you, my great grandfather in 1900 came round the corner to find children in the road and swerved through a wall, down into a river. Must have been one of the earliest people in the U.K. to die in a car crash. My father crashed a plane into a truck on landing due to sheep on the runway.

I’m generally quite cautious.

that already happens... all those "security" companies that have to give their cars the full on battenburg effect with a light bar on a Skoda Octavia or Ford Mondeo estate, so that at 500 yards it looks a bit like a police car and you check your speed a bit, and then when you realise its not a police car, you can continue onwards.

Said the cow, "If that were the case, I'd be over the moon".
