Not that I've claimed on my insurance for over thirty years but, do they have a column asking you to state what footwear you were wearing at time of accident?

I've known girls drive barefoot, usually cos they're wearing heels which are tricky to drive in. Can't see how they'd get enough purchase on the brake pedal if they needed to stamp on it for any reason. Probably safer than flip flops or sliders (the clue's in the name) but still not great.

Seems like this was in the news 5 years ago and was a stupid idea then, just like now.
Was discussed on PH a few years prior to that too!

I have no problem locking the wheels in my Elise (which has no brake servo) in bare feet. You can engage the ABS on most modern cars by breathing on the pedal.

I don’t have a problem with people driving in them.

It’s grown men walking about in them that I’d like a crackdown on hehe
This.

Not sure what's worse, flip-flops (the name says it all) or Crocs.

Tried it once and decided it does not feel safe - rather avoid risk of flip flop under brake pedal

Forgetting to renew your tax can invalidate your insurance???
Nope - neither can no MOT. What a load of rubbish!

Agreed and almost...however

Scary how many users of this site think it's a car based site and not some nancy hang out for euro boys wanting to justify their badge buys

Being a petrol head has fk all to do with money and badges and everything to do with opening the fking bonnet and playing with the oily bits, stting yourself using a grinding disc and closing your eyes when you forget your welding mask...

Or at least it did when I rebuilt stuff frown

Flips flops fk right off, both for wearing the fking things and driving in them, have a long hard fking word with yourself....

Quite possibly, as the only point of the "research" - very vague term, that - was for the production of an "advertornews" article - i.e. "news" the sole purpose of which is to offer free promotion to the company behind its production. Rigorous methodology absolutely not necessary nor desired. And the key term is "can" invalidate, not "does". To invalidate, it would be necessary for any item in the list to be a main contributory factor in the accident.

Aside from the fact it is never hot enough in the UK to justify flip flops, I have driven bare feet for very short distances and found it rather difficult. Your brain is used to the feel through shoes and even though you are technically in closer contact with the pedal, it just feels very odd.

What about Birkenstocks? The PH powerfully builts summer shoe choice.

Deck shoes with no socks?

What about Sliders? Crocs? Aaaaaahhh, now look what you’ve done....

It’s a can of worms this one.

Works fine for me. No control issues. I quite liked that it made my Impreza pedal feel like a floor hinged one smile

Surely there is a risk of the flip flop slipping (if only partially) underneath the brake and therefore preventing the driver stopping the car. From that point of view one would be better off barefoot.

What a load of rubbish - I've had many a spirited drive in flip flops, on long journeys I tend to kick them off an go barefoot instead. It's a different sensation, but in no way dangerous

Isaac,

Did you know the word gullible doesn't appear in the dictionary.
