How about a nice pastel shade cashmere jumper worn over shoulders. That's ok right? Once can still maintain car control so attired?

Where'd you get this? Looks like total bks to me.
My insurance states your insurance is invalidated/cancelled if you crash after drink or drugs. I expect every other insurance does too. I can guarantee if this wasn't bks that would be top of the list

Also 150% - I did change my mind though, if it scares the great unwashed into not doing these things crack on

Aside from the fact it is never hot enough in the UK to justify flip flops, I have driven bare feet for very short distances and found it rather difficult. Your brain is used to the feel through shoes and even though you are technically in closer contact with the pedal, it just feels very odd.
Don’t you think maybe it’s rather difficult and odd feeling for you because you’ve not done it much? Feels perfectly normal to me, and if I can apply enough pressure to the brake to activate the ABS then surely that’s plenty?

I could say it never snows enough in this country to warrant a 4x4 or it never rains enough to warrant an umbrella, but then that’s the part of the UK I live in, which is probably different to yours. We had 28C again in the past few days, if that isn’t hot enough for flip flops then what is?

Justify? Why would you need to justify wearing them?
Because you're not allowed to be on Pistonheads unless your whole life revolves around fitting in with the opinions and expectations of the rest of the clique in every possible way. Having ones own opinions is not allowed and the idea of function over image is certainly not. Don't you know anything?

Sadly I think most (or at least a large proportion of) people on PH are more interested in fashion and brands than in cars these days.

I don't understand why people think leg muscles attached to a bare foot are less strong then those to one shod in shoes?

This list was in an article on my local newspaper website the other day. You know, the type that is packed with adverts that take forever to load, and then crashes under the strain, and is apparently staffed with secondary school drop outs that can neither write nor think.

I suspect it is some kind of 'pro forma' blurb that is sent around the syndicate in order for them to fill space. A form of click bait.

What about Birkenstocks? The PH powerfully builts summer shoe choice.

Deck shoes with no socks?

What about Sliders? Crocs? Aaaaaahhh, now look what you’ve done....

It’s a can of worms this one.
Only lesbians wear Birkenstocks. Crocs are worn by tossers whose wife and children also wear them and dress alike and eat tofu and drive a Prius. Deck shoes (as opposed to boat shoes) are nasty heavy rancid sweaty abominations, I should know, I used to have a pair until I ditched them one year in Italy.

Was just going to post the same. Policia/Guardia are hot on tourists doubt this in the Canaries.

I think flip flops are an utter abomination that no self respecting person would ever wear, driving or not

Flip flops are not attached to the heel at any point and so loose fitting ones can slide about.

Anyone who really thinks that ^^ is a good idea, obviously hasn't thought it through.

Also, just because a few people have driven with them and have never self imploded or personally had to undertake an emergency stop whilst wearing them, isn't really a solid gold guarantee.

I've been driving in flip flops for the last 7 and a half years.
Total number of accidents.... Zero.
Total number of near misses due to wearing flip flops..... Zero.

Total number of sts given by not falling in line with others opinions.... Yep, that's a zero too.

I quite often drive in socks, much more feel for my hypermiling.

Don't wear flip flops, but can't imagine theme being very good for driving.

I knew someone once who wore flip flops when driving, had an almighty prang one day, not sure if it was the beer or the flip flops fault though.

Agreed and almost...however

Scary how many users of this site think it's a car based site and not some nancy hang out for euro boys wanting to justify their badge buys

Being a petrol head has fk all to do with money and badges and everything to do with opening the fking bonnet and playing with the oily bits, stting yourself using a grinding disc and closing your eyes when you forget your welding mask...

Or at least it did when I rebuilt stuff frown

Flips flops fk right off, both for wearing the fking things and driving in them, have a long hard fking word with yourself....
A shame that the cringe thread was closed.
That's a genuine contender.

Same here. I wear safety boots at work (which I leave at work) so drive to and from work in flip-flops pretty much year round.

My accident stats mirror yours.

Surely there is a risk of the flip flop slipping (if only partially) underneath the brake and therefore preventing the driver stopping the car. From that point of view one would be better off barefoot.
That is the reason not to drive in them, if anyone thinks otherwise, they are idiots.

In Australia, driving in said footwear is not illegal, but not encouraged and considered to be a bit of an "idiot" move:

I don't do it. I find it all too easy for them to get caught on the pedals. I prefer barefoot...

I wasn’t aware flip flops were such a safety hazard. Never had an issue, must be a PH thing smile
