No it hasn't. Have you driven an Abarth?
Would much rather have a 2.0 litre N/A engine that revs to 7500 RPM than a turbo lump in a sports car. Chassis dynamics can be fixed easily and cheaply. What engine your car comes with cannot.
I drove the MX-5 and 124 Abarth back to back at an SMMT test day, the Fiat was the best drive I had all day (20 cars including an R8 V10), but I'd find it very hard to justify the cost of the Fiat over the Mazda.
Depends if you manage to get a crazy cheap lease deal that they have recently had on the Abarths, sticker price doesn’t mean much then

Definitely top of the list for my next car with the power bump.

I found the Clio 182 with similar bhp/tonne to be perfect cross country. Anymore and I end up backing off a lot which can be a bit tedious when you have a 4 cylinder keeping you company.

Sounds really good to me, loved my lightly tweaked NC2.0 and this would be much better. Can't get away with a two seater what with family these days but if I was 5 years younger I think I'd be really tempted.

My ex girlfriends mum has an RX8 that was rotten in next to no time; she kept it garaged too as she often worked abroad for 4/5 weeks at a time, the gap who gave the car its first MOT was aghast at the state of it.

There's plenty of rotten Mazda 6s out there too, especially those made in the mid 2000s.

Ive had two mk2 mx5’s (although arguably the worst) which have turned to dust before my very eyes. They have horrific problems with rusting. Seems they aren’t too concerned with belt and braces going forwards either!

Was wondering when this would be posted on the front page smile. Nice little upgrade to an already good car, innit?

Regarding selling off the 160 HP versions, in Germany at least they are only available as existing stock. Assume it's the same in the UK. Here, dealers have been ordering 184 HP versions since last week of May. What's missing is an official price/spec list for the public. But from what I heard, RF is supposed to be same price, soft tops € 400 more expensive. Wish they would pull the finger out and update the websites...

Background is that they had to do something to the engine anyway for the new EU6 emission standard. Very nice that they combined this with a big upgrade. Peak torque should be around 4k, power 7k, redline 7.5. And power to weight now pretty close to an Elan Sprint. Oh well, only took em 50 odd years smile.

Kudos to Mazda for keeping it old school and focusing on light weight , driver experience and NA high rev power.
It could be a lot faster with a turbo ( and the BBR ones are v appealing) , but a heavy, boosty version with a flat top end would not be as delicate and fun.

Have the latest versions got anymore driving space\legroom than the mk1 and mk2? The wife has had a couple of those and i couldn't quite fit in properly.

Yes, my Mazda6 has a completely rotten rear wheel arch on the right side while strangely the left is perfect. I'm going to check it carefully underneath and decide whether it's worth me replacing the arch (only £35) or just replace the car.

The lack of protection in the pictures is shocking, Mercedes had a problem but appear to have put in the effort to fix it.

I would have another Mazda but I wouldn't pay a lot for it. A shame as their weight saving is very impressive but few would mind a few more pounds of protection...

Looks brilliant. 184hp in a car that weighs very little, sounds exactly like the late 90s/early 2000s hot hatches (Civic EP3, Clio 182 etc.) I look forward to seeing some of these on the road.

Gee whiz. I’m very surprised at those images of the underside. I assumed all automakers were now very good at anti corrosion measures. The areas without under seal are one thing, but the (essentially) exposed tooling holes in the UNDERBODY are incredible. That’ll rust within weeks and spread inwards without much hindrance.

Note to self - do not buy a Mazda.

Yet my 2005 Mazda 6 didn't have a single rust advisory when I sold it last year. It does seem to be hit and miss, perhaps depending a) where in the country the car has been owned and b) if its been garaged or not. Maybe I got lucky.

My MX-5 NB however, was needing annual welding, so I moved it on. £250-£300 a year is quite an expense on a car worth £1000 if you cant do the work yourself.

I don't understand why Mazda in particular are so bad. Toyota, Nissan and Honda don't seem to have the same issues. Well, at least they don't appear to have in recent years

The main reason I got the 1.5 instead of the 2.0 was the smaller engine felt more special, but I might have to get the revised 2.0 now.

The first thing I had done was dinotrol the 1.5 as I didn't expect mazda to come out with a zingier 2.0

As someone mentioned, the higher rev limit should mean it can hit 60 mph in 2nd helping its on paper stats if that is important to you

It's not about the driving for many. Dual carriageways and works/shop car parks are the same everywhere.

I think these are great cars. The old ones were great to drive. It's a pity that they rusted to death so easily, though.

Anyone got one of these yet? Im going to go take a test drive I think. Love the looks of the RF and now it has a healthy amount of power (along with an LSD) it sounds like it should be proper fun.

I've been looking at these as well (and also like the RF)

I didn't test drive in the end as the combination of having move the seat a long way back so my head didn't catch the ridge that runs across the centre of the (soft top) roof and the lack of the lumbar support meant back ache after sitting in it for 5 mins (6ft1).

There are some very competitive deals on these at the moment - you can get a soft top GT Sport + for less than £300/m with £0 deposit at 4.1% (or around £3,500 discount on list price) and about another £20/m more for the Sport+ RF (or around £3,700 discount on list price).

The 30th Anniversary in racing orange, black roof, Recaros, Rays and Brembos looks very nice. Little or no discount that I could find on one though.
