Does the 1.5 not have a diff? It must corner very badly!
You're going to be surprised when you find out most Lotus don't have one.
Most Lotus don’t have a diff! Are you sure about that?

I am yes. An LSD is normally an optional extra if avaliable at all.

That sentence doesn't make any sense. Would take the Abarth over this, if I didn't already have one, for the noise alone. Plus it's far more tuneable and has Brembo brakes and Bilstein suspension.

But which one comes without a diff?

I cannot see one on the Lotus website which does not come with either an open diff or a locking diff/LSD.

Drove the ND 1.5 extensively and found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable car. For a car driven in real traffic, probably the most enjoyable car full stop from day to day that you can simply buy new anywhere.

The updated 2.0 sound like music in my ears, there is still a future for affordable NA sports cars! Power to weight it will be on par with my ex GT86 that was tuned to 225 real hp and proper torque, and on such a platform (light, manual, NA) that is plenty to have some proper driver enjoyment even on faster B roads...
To get that out of the factory and with the possibility of open top motoring, is a great proposition.

While I make a dynamic parallel with the GT86, as these cars are often mentioned together as already happened here, the 200kg or so kerb difference is really the result of them being very different cars practically. One is a strict two seater and preferably not too large adults, and very little luggage. The other while no practical hatch, is really more practical than a 911, can sit three adults occasially or even four if the driver is small or willing to compromise seating position, while the folding rear seat means one can cram plenty of stuff in there. amongst other a full size full suspension 29" enduro MTB with just the front wheel out - a mx-5 can't even fit just the front wheel in the car... Making that the car can work as the only car for a single person or even a young couple. A GT...

Wonder if they have fixed the gearbox issues which are made of chocolate. Also have they done anything too improve rust further down the lines as the mk4 I've seen look like rot boxes waiting too happen.

However glad that Mazda are keeping with the tried and tested low weight n/a roadster.

BBR get circa +54bhp on the 'full fat' S200 NA conversion.

Applying this gain to the new car would result in 238bhp at 7,500rpm, add in the lighter flywheel and that would be a sweet NA engine !!

Appreciate there is nothing to say you will get the same gains but interesting all the same.

Hadn't heard of this but a quick search reveals that its affected a fair number of owners. Surely they will need to address this (if they haven't already).

There is a secret way of making a current 2.0 one go faster, nothing else at all works inc the stop button hehe but it will go like absolute stink until you stall it. They have a mapped throttle body & a peskily low rev limit by default, that is all gone using this technique. I have tried it (quite a lot) & no I'm not allowed to tell you, but some people have found it by accident.

Still want a 1.5 with a diff, Mazda!
You tease! Come on give us a clue, my google is broken.

Is it though, do you mean "Not butch", see all sorts of folk driving MX5's, some may cut hair for a living but the vast majority dont.

..Differential..
EVERY car bar tadpole trikes (which are arguably not cars) have a differential in their rear axle, otherwise cornering would become an unpleasant affair. Of course you meant limited slip differential, which is indeed something many of us like to have in a sport(y) car.

I like the ND, great to see Mazda only making good type of improvements in this revision.

Ps please do a hatchback coupe version Mazda (think MG B GT). Something with a kind-of rear bench would allow family budget to be mobilised.
