I'm my head I imagined something as ground breaking and different as the 1990 840 when that came out.
Oh, I dunno, seems to follow properly in the footsteps. It's a lardy, ugly 7-series coupe, just like the E31 was back in the day.(which came out as the 850 with the 750's v12 to start with, with the 840 using the common-or-garden 5/7 v8 coming a couple of years into production)

I've just realised that I haven't seen a 1990s 8er in the wild for years.
Lucky. I saw one a little while ago, which reminded me just how awkward they looked, and how dated they now are. Here's a late 840, for <£4k from a trader... https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C469896
I am.certianly not the target market for this type of car, but if I was I am sure I would want something more special looking than this. It, just looks like any other BMW but bigger. The Lexus lc500 looks stunning compared to this, and a mercedes S coupe at least looks special and exspencive compared to the regular models.

Looks like a squashed/stretched mustang if you ignore the BMW corporate front end.
From B pillar back almost identical.
I was about to post the exact same sentence. It looks like a stepped on Mustang with a BMW roundel..From B pillar back almost identical.
It's not like they had 25 years plus to sort a good design out, I mean I know it has to follow certain design parameters for safety etc. But fk me what a meh design. I have a feeling it will be somewhat inert to drive too - I may be mistaken..
Can’t help but agree with the statements above. I wanted to love it to death, what with the 8 series gran Lusso concept of a few years back & the metallic green beaut (M8) we saw recently. This although nice is mildly underwhelming. When I used to see an e31 as a kid, I’d get all agitated and just want to stare at it. Perhaps modern safety standards have forced all cars to look the same? Shame really, I hope the bonkers M8 thing comes to life...

Nice beardage. I've just realised that I haven't seen a 1990s 8er in the wild for years. Love that car. Did they die or did their values rocket?
Prices are slowly on the increase for a nice low mileage FSH Sport's which are selling around £16/20K Silverstones auction have just sold a 60 odd mile car for just under £19K,I've had mine for near on 9 years now and love it that's when i get the time to use it... That's the next car sorted! The outgoing 6er was a lovely car and, as relatively few people bought one, could be had with some heavy discounts.
I imagine the increase in price (but not really image and status) will decrease the potential market further, which means 12 months after launch there will be some good deals to be had.

It looks nice, but it is a 6 series replacement and not even a parts bin special. The only reason it is 8 series is to charge more and boost their profit margins.Yes,the original 8 series was a coupe version of the 7 series, but it was(or looked) much more bespoke and special. The engines are the same as 5 series and the carbon roof has been on every M3 since the CSL.
Lexus LC500 is much more desirable,IMO.

It was finished weeks ago. Stop fking about with it. Honestly, since she left you you've been in the office all hours and the car has gone from handsome to a total fking fussfest. Yeesh. Go! Home!
