Love the colour and love the interior, just maybe not together. I could live without the spoiler as well but then, I may be sounding a little picky.

What a stunning car

I still have this poster that I got many years ago hanging on the wall of the original LM in McLaren's orange colour.

Think I prefer this one over the ones with RM Sotheby's.

Quite a premium for 50bhp, TVR paint and some wheels.

Yep, that was always my favourite F1 as a young'un. So presumably that one is the only other road LM? Belongs to sultan of Brunei I seem to recall.

Don't like the colour at all of the one for sale. To me something with race car styling rarely suits an elaborate colour. Don't like the wheels or interior much either for that matter but none of them are the main reason I'm unlikely to be buying.

Obviously it's value is still huge, but Is the repray/retrim likely the damage the value of this (alike most non-original classics)?

It seems to me from the Flemke thread that most of these cars have seen several different colours over time. Doesn't seem to hurt their value at all.

Still one of the best automotive photographs ever for me that one. I had it as a centre spread in a supercar magazine which also featured the original Zonda C12 amongst others. Was around the time when I started to get interested in all things cars.

I am sure one of our Mclaren experts will be along to set me straight...

However, I think that this car was referred to as the 'best f1' ever made by some of the engineers from Mclaren.

My memory fails me, but there was one car that a huge number of upgrades and refinements made to it and I believe it is this chassis.

I don't like the wheels though, but it's a very, very special car none the less.

Something that was pointed out a few years back to me is a classic, once you've seen it, you cant un-see it.

See that Bridgstone sticker on the side skirt of this GTR? (Not Andy's I gather)

The "LM Spec" car for sale, doesn't have that side skirt. Makes the car look weird! I'm sure McLaren would fit them if you ask of course (and probably stump up £100K!) And the red car also has the spoiler at some ridiculous height. So that would need to go back to GTR height of the Lark GTR above

I blame Erik (peleton25) for my spotting of these differences biggrin

Regarding Values
$13.7M is £10.3M

Bearing in mind there's probably a wedge of commission fees in there, and as Flemke once said, (paraphrasing)

Auctions are a crap way to buy a car since it artificially inflates a value. Great for the seller, bad for buyer.

Auction will probably net $15M. Private sale, probably nearer the $13M IMO. Anyone who wants one will already have one I guess, why buy this one at inflated auction price?

LM Engine or not, a standard road car is probably a better investment.
GTR values "appear" be 10-20% behind road cars. Last I checked.

Give me the requisite funds and there'd be one in my garage! (GTR or Road car, I'm not fussy!) I love everything about it and what it stands for

Someone more knowledgeable than me will be along to correct me, but,

There are 6 LM’s in total. Of these:

3 belong (or at least used to) the Sultan of Brunei
1 prototype was retained by the factory (it is rumoured that Ron Dennis promised to give it to Lewis Hamilton if he won 3 WDC’s with McLaren)
1 belongs to Ralph Lauren

I’ve no idea where the sixth is. As I say, someone will be along to provide more information.

It was in a Japanese collection, along with the GT (1 of 2 road versions of the longtail).

Where's the LIKE button ?

Like the colour.
Like everything.

Except the likely sale price.

The only other one I was aware of is/was owned by a chap called Andrew Bagnall.

Much nicer colour scheme IMHO. I certainly would. cloud9

It's from McLaren's own PR.

Amazed that choice of colour really works with it - looks stunning. Same colour as Lewis Hamiltons plane I think...

The Sultans F1's

Pic from outside Genesis.

Stories abound that he never sells any cars. And that they all just sit in a warehouse without air con rotting. (Brunei is a bit warm!)

However, they did sell 005 couple of years ago, so there's hope that someone will liberate a few of his F1s and actually get them used!

I must be alone in thinking the colour is ghastly. Dark colours for me. Even the Atkinson burgundy is preferable to something quite so "West Coast Customs". I'd have that straight back to MSO for a repaint and retrim.
You’re not alone. This is a sort of George Barris Metalflake type colour that you would associate with a Meyers Manx or similar.. Papaya orange (F1 LM colour) would go well with the wing, silver always works, failing that I agree with your preference for the darker colours. I’m not sold on the 90s TSW style wheels, the LM 5 spokes would be a lot better.

Look what’s parked behind the yellow one, a Bentley Dominator, the proto-Bentayga based on parts from a Turbo R and a P38. Now that is unusual!

It's a sobering day when you realise that a bunch of smiley's own a better car collection then you will ever have. The overuse of them on forums and in texts must be paying well!
