What's up with that speedo? Is that in KMH, if so, it seems to be topping out at about 125mph? If it is MPH it is doing over 200!!
Just seems really sluggish from 110mph onwards if it is in KMH? Or it is just wildly inaccurate, or they messed with the final drive?

Obviously it's KM/H. I'm guessing you've never driven Spa? That uphill after Eau-Rouge takes some climbing. I did think it was slower than I thought up here, but then thought that the speedo is probably GPS speed and I've only ever measured speed up there going by the speedometer.

Edit; looks like she's doing 215km/h (133mph) before braking at the top, that's pretty impressive!

Indeed, it's a climb! My M135i probably matched that there but the Megane didn't like it, what with the shorter gearing.

^this, the kemmel straight is a steep climb all the way to the top, last time i was at Spa i had a Jog along the side of the track and i was knackered by the time i got to the top!

on track I was hitting circa 120 mph by the end of the Kemmel in 2106 Megane 275 Cup-S, my brother circa 135mph in a E46 CSL. Its all about Power, there just no substitute along that part of the track

I know it is an incline, but on other straights, it seems to be struggling a bit. I wonder if the aero has a big effect, as I pulled noticeably higher speeds at Spa in my old big turbo Ibiza, and figured the type R would have the legs of that in a straight line! Maybe it is quite draggy? As for it being GPS speed, I think it is just the car's speedo read out, is it not. Not sure how accurate that is vs GPS.

Possibly could be the aero yeah, but I think they have an official top speed of 169mph or something daft?

Imagine a world where looks are subjective. We could call it Earth or something like that.

Other way around for me. The Focus RS was great but it felt like it was doing a lot of work to try and hide its weight. The Type-R just felt natural and balanced, which is why I think it felt better on the road.

You might not, but there are people out there who will track these cars, and these tests/achievements are important.

Honda have been doing it for years; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E-x9p45xPA
Fair points, I have driven neither, or tracked a car before and opinions vary. I also heard that Honda were considering doing a version without the aero, but not sure about whether that would come to the UK or not. That would make it a better proposition for road use for me (along with the Focus and Megane) if I was still looking for another car to replace the S3.

I have seen a review where the edition version of the RS with the from LSD beats the Civic o track. I also think Hondas 'Ring lap record is somewhat suspect.
What a surprise!

Doesn't really matter which is quickest, I believe the CTR is the better package.

True but I think they would sell more if it looked a bit less chav.

I was a Honda fan (CRX, S2000 & EP3) for years until they fell off a cliff with the FN2. Its just got steadily worse in the looks department.
Bring back the ethos the DC2 (Lightness) was built around and you will have an even better car.

I've resorted to buying an Elise now as all these new performance cars have lost that raw feel. That's part of the driving experience imo.

I think those days have gone. The weight and design constraints of modern family cars is what it is. Toyota tried with the GT86, nobody was that bothered? It seems everyone just wants headline numbers around the usual circuits.

I do as well, it’s just that he cannot help but troll every thread on a CTR. We’re all lucky these choices exist.

Its a shame that cars have turned into overweight over powered barges.
I suppose that's where Lotus still has sales although now Geely have control that could go the way of the dodo too.

Obvious troll is obvious.

If you don't like the looks, why post in every FK8 thread?

Maybe if I was in my 20’s and hanging around in McDonald’s car parks.

Hideous, they have made a just as bad job on that as they did with the FK & FN.

The EP was the best shape imo. This is just a Subaru clone.

I think we've long learned how sensitive he is about the Focus.

The Civic is by far the best driving hot hatch.

I just couldn't see me owning one.
For me, the Megane has pretty much always dominated that experience.

I could definitely see me owning one aswell.
I've not even seen a new Megane RS yet.

That's fine, I believe the opposite having actually driven both. Have you both driven both?

The Civic is a great car no doubt and has a better ride and interior (although I prefer the seats and Nav the RS) and feels very punchy for 300bhp but I didn't find it anywhere near as playful as the RS.

It depends what you want from a car.

It just seems odd to me (and others) that the Civic is a fair bit quicker on some tracks but slower on others when all lap times are in the dry. Not that it matters as it's about how a car is as a package unless it's solely a track car which none of these are likely to be for a fair few years at least.

I'm very interested in a go in the megane when the 300bhp version is released, I think it is far more aesthetically pleasing than than any other hot hatch on sale currently.

Subject to a test drive being as per all the reviews I think I'd have the i30N over the CTR as its looks are far less......challenging.
Saying that the fk2 has grown on me and I thought that was gopping at the time of release so who knows with time.

I love these, but in an ideal world I'd take the drivability of the FK8 and the looks of an FK2; grey please! biggrin
