I dont like the look of these cars, but im glad that they exist, they make a nice change from a sea of dull looking cars.

Yes, yes I have. Before you get all menstrual again, I'm not saying the RS is a bad car because it isn't, it's a fantastic car. It's just the CTR is fantastic+1.

I don't think that kind of language is really invited is it?

What have I done to incur the wrath of the 3 amigos to pounce at every opportunity? The other ones of which have mainly driven neither. SafewaySi arriving in 3....2....1.
..

It seems some have nothing to say about this car or its competitors but love to just attack someone like a pack of ferral hounds whenever the opportunity arises. Quite pathetic really.

The looks are growing on me rapidly.

I think i'll get one, it is a classic hot hatch.

Fantastic piece of kit even if the design is a bit fussy, but try getting one, compared to the usual suspects any CTR in the last five or six years has at least 20 each of M135i's, Leon Cupras, S3's and Golf R's to choose from.

It’s very boring, and predictable. Every Civic Type R thread. Nobody said the RS or Megane are poor!

What's very boring and predictable is you lot jumping on my every comment. I haven't said anything particularly bad or outrageous about the Civic.

I'm not the one suggesting that they remap it and equip it with slicks for these "records" yet it's my comments you quote.....again. rolleyes

That's not quite true though, is it? I fully supported you during the HumanDoing debacle because he was tedious. Unfortunately, you do seem to get incredibly defensive on any thread where the RS is mentioned. If you don't want to come in for abuse, you should probably dial it back a little.

Obvious troll is obvious.

If you don't like the looks, why post in every FK8 thread?

I'm hardly a troll. Maybe I'm just a bit disappointed that Honda have tried way too hard on the last few Type R.

I've been a Honda fan for years but there current line up doesn't interest me at all. I want to like Honda's again but just cant.

The S2000 (which I had 2 of) was the last decent car they designed imo, everything since then has been a bit rubbish.
The EP3 sold in 1000's but this new version is so marmite I'm sure sales figures in the same period will be a lot slower due to the looks.

I think that's what I find so frustrating about it, the EP3 didn't need all the juvenile addenda to make an excellent car (if anything, it didn't look quite sporty enough). I'm sure Honda could have fitted a more race inspired spoiler which generated the same downforce on the FK8, for instance.

There wasn't the same amount of choice in the hot hatch market. The Civic was also more affordable back then.

With nearly all new cars being bought on PCP finance the Civic looks a bit expensive in comparison to rivals.

The FK8 is selling like hot cakes in the US.

I thought the same. I think if you do an inflation comparison from 2002 then the price is not that far off. That's what I was told anyway as I've not actually worked it out.

That's because they were never allowed a Type R on the market until now. Making up for it?

Are you joking? You turn up in any hot hatch thread to bang the Focus RS drum and then throw a tantrum when someone has a different opinion or when the evidence reveals that the Focus is at the bottom of the pile. You were quite happy to wind that HumanDoing troll up, indeed I thought you might have had some sort of alarm set up to notify you of when he had posted so you could dive in.

I can't see it working out that much. Back then the Civic could be picked up for less than the Astra GSi. You could get one for £14-15k new and the Focus RS was about 40% more expensive at £20k.

Performance Audis and BMWs used to be at the next again price level. Now the Audi S3, Golf R and BMW M140i are all around the same list price. By the time you factor in discounts and finance deals a 6 cylinder BMW is now cheaper than a Civic. That was far from the case 15 years ago.

So which comment if this thread needed "dialing back"?

I can't see that I've said anything contraversial.

To be fair, they've only just recently been released. I've not even seen any for sale on AT yet in the UK, let alone seeing any out on the roads.

However, i wasn't specifically talking about the new one. The 275 was, and still is, a fantastic drivers hot-hatch. I think the new 280 model will continue build on that. Most appear to be waiting for the Trophy though, which is fair enough.

I know all the hatches in this segment (Focus, Meg, Civic etc) are bigger than they used to be but this Civic looks massive!

I can get over the looks of the Type R, I thought the same of the previous FK2 but they have grown on me. The thing that struck me was the size of this new one. Part of the appeal of driving a car is being able to place it on the road. The natural evolution of cars is to make the next model bigger so limits how you thread them down a nice B-Road. Even the new Audi S1 looks A3 size now!

No doubt this Type R drives great, I just think it's size would suck some of the fun out of the driving experience for me, from a road driving perspective anyway.

As a side note, I seen a pic of a FK8 in Champ-White with white wheels on, it looks good.... to me anyway!

I think a black one without the spoiler would look OK in an 80s Knight Rider way but that's where I'd draw the line. I am intrigued as to how they are to drive though, along with the Focus RS and Megane RS.
