What were your "attainable" childhood dream cars?

I remember dreaming of this when I went to view one with my dad. He bought a Renault 11 instead. Still dreaming of one.
One of our cricket coaches had one and used to give us a ride to games as a kid. Remember being wowed by the digital speedo. Had never seen anything so futuristic before in my life. Being French, it probably only worked for about a month, but it was fookin cool. The Subaru Impreza was probably the car that started embarassing other expensive cars for me and obviously was enormously successful in Rallying.
I'm now the very grateful owner of this.
Kids and adults look at it wherever I go and I get a LOT of thumbs up. It's also as good (if not better) than I expected.
Then there's Godzilla.
These were destroying exotics for breakfast and laughed at the idea of being followed by 'aerial support' on the way back home. I had a friend who drove a GT-S like it was stolen every time he started it and it cemented my adoration for the breed. I just couldn't believe how strong they were and that they'd keep taking the same beating hour after hour with smoke pluming from the rear tyres. I had to find a way to get one.
I'm now the incredibly happy owner of a nearly bare shell of one of these.

I always wanted a 3dr Sierra RS Cosworth.
I had the chance of one in the early 90s when I was working in the trade. I could afford the £2,500 it stood us, but couldn't even get an insurance quote on it from any of the usual suspects. A local specialist broker found me cover with all sorts of restrictions and caveats for £11,500 per year! I couldn't afford it.
Now the insurance is three figures and a nice example of the car is nearer six figures than four. Go figure!

My attainable dream car was a Scabby Lancia Delta. I always loved how they look.
I used to pass one on my paper round when I was around 13 years old. It had a 250quid for sale tag on the windscreen.
I could have bought it then but I had no-where to keep it, I couldn't drive legally and my parents would have killed me.
When I was 17 my dad bought me a car I didn't want, it was a first car so he did me big favour, when I was 18 I took out a massive bank loan for 2000quid and bought my first Lancia Delta 1300LX (5 years old) with all the turbo bits on it.
I felt like a rock star everyday.

I was about 10 and saw a brand new convertible e46 M3.
This was followed by THAT need for speed with the M3. That became the only car I ever really wanted, and remains the only car I want for sentimental reasons.
When I was 19 I purchased, with my mother a 318i saloon. What a car for a teenager.
I now own a 330i convertible and will be keeping it. The sentimental attachment becomes greater with every road trip or adventure it comes on. I'm now in the financial position to buy a brand new one or a newish M4 but I decided I'm enjoying my tatty old e46 enough to keep it as a long term fun car/project. This thought is cemented every time one of you lot talk about wishing you'd never sold your pride and joy (nova, e30, etc)

I always wanted a Lancia Delta Integrale. I played a lot of Sega Rally as a young lad. Of course, they weren't always unattainable. A friend of mine nearly bought one when he left the army for reasonable money.
I harp on about this but, if you look to the right on this picture,You See a Toyota Celica GT4, equal billing,
A quick shufty at the Classifieds,

Some others at more ambitious prices but 4/5 grand is still a realistic budget, a sum that would get you an Integrale, only if it was made by Tamiya or was delivered in a dust pan and brush.
Ok, the Integrale is prettier (GT4 does have something about it though) and maybe it drives better, I drove one in 1991 and was impressed and haven't driven a GT4 Celica but cant imagine its ten times better, plus I get the impression that the Toyota is possibly a bit more resilient/less temperamental ? (which isnt saying much)
No particular vested interest, not got a warehouse full of them, just cant understand why the Integrale and Escort Cosworth are so highly prized and the GT4 comparatively cheap ?
Still an iconic car in its own right.
Missed this one from my OP. Not sure if these have ever been affordable to me (they're certainly not now) and like the 996 now, I seem to remember a time when everyone was fawning over the 993 and the 964 was the unloved 911 generation. Loved the 964 though, from a time when the 911 still had the narrow body and Porsches still appeared to be over-engineered and mechanically bulletproof. I would have been over the moon with a black Carrera 2/4 but despite not being a fan of the Turbo in other 911 generations, there was something about the 964 turbo (last one with RWD too)?

Oops, I missed this earlier!
I had a MK2 RS2000, then a Capri 2.8 Injection in Strato silver that I had to sell for the deposit on my 1st house!
But a couple of years later I got another one in Caspian Blue over Strato Silver - unfinished business!
Never had a 3.0 though.
I had the 2.8i for nearly 20 years but I never liked it as much as the 3.0S. It was technically better in nearly every way but somehow there was just something lacking.I had a MK2 RS2000, then a Capri 2.8 Injection in Strato silver that I had to sell for the deposit on my 1st house!
