That's not a road car, no way- would never pass pedestrian external projections requirements.

It's either a personal car that has been modified, is a race car development vehicle, or it is a development mule for the next gen / a different model

Being a road car in Germany though, it would need to pass TUV correct? They're pretty strict aren't they...

I am talking about ECE regulations manufacturers must comply to for vehicles sold in EU. TUV is like an MOT isn't it?

Having said that - the car shown is a NAS vehicle, and they don't have pedestrian requirements in US - they prefer to protect your car than any pedestrians you hit - so it could be a NAS market GTS.

That effort to Photoshop the Pistonheads text onto the front numberplate is shocking.

I use the term under advisement but....

That looks gash.

It's like an unholy union between a BMW M4, FK8 Civic Type R and Halfords (Is Demon Tweeks still going?).

I'm hoping that the posts about it being someones track car (but BMW plates point another way) are true.

The collectors & investors rub hands with delight. The rest of us comment on how ugly it has become, but I will for one will salivate like a rabid dog when I see one. If of course that ever happens, as the majority will be locked away, accumulating wealth.

The plate of this car is M-FQ4397, just in case anyone in Germany has a fancy numberplate look-up thing. It is a factory car though as these pictures were taken at the BMW compound at the Nurburgring.
The car has been described as an M4 GTS Aero elsewhere, but it looks too aggressive to just be a bodykit.

That's not a prototype, that's just an M4 after a trip to Halfords.

Maybe it's me, but I'm just seeing a couple of bits of plastic aero added behind the front wing and under the skirts with a slightly higher, fixed rear wing over the 'standard' GTS?

This is almost certainly not an upcoming road car.

Really? Why not, when the difference between the two cars is not much different to that between a current GT3 and GT3 RS?

Just a hunch. For one thing the ride height looks way too low for an OEM to ocnsider usable on the road. Perfectly happy to be proven wrong of course.

The M4 GTS was already very low though (and lower than any other M4 because it has rose jointed suspension).

Some did not get the carbon splitter fitted for that reason...

I’ve always wondered how that works, so it’s illegal for a manufacturer to create a car that may be more harmful to pedestrians etc but it’s ok if the owner of the car modifies it? What if I wanted to add a bonnet scoop to my car, how does it work

As this will likely cost over £140 k, it is in junior supercar price bracket and the "tuned M4" approach does not seem like value for money to me.

Considering that Porsche starts with a very good sports car and modifies heavily to create the GT3.
Mclaren starts with a full CF tub, and is every ounce a junior supercar
Audi have a wonderful V10
Mercedes has the GTS, bespoke ground up car with honking power plant from E63.
Aston Martin has ..... the badge ;-)

Then this.... M4 GTS not enough of anything to compete with the above, no matter how many CF body parts and engine / suspension tuning is done, all the compromises of a 4 seat coupe remain.

something simple like a bonnet scoop can be added easily, it`s the canards, and the rear diffuser that cause the issue. With them sticking out and having a sharp edge they are considered to be a hazard to pedestrians. I can`t remember which car it was but one was recently featured on Top Gear that couldn`t be sold in GB for that reason.
