I would like to see a lightweight "Club Sport" version with wind up windows, no aircon, no driver aids etc.
Why? It's already a light-weight car yet brings the modern stuff that makes using them easier. And it's not really that lightweight.
It would just be nice to have the choice. All I'm asking them to do is to leave some of the crap off.
My last two seater was a Caterham Seven, which was quite sophisticated enough.

Funnily enough, that's exactly why Mazda won't make what you specifically want; people simply won't buy it.
The MX-5 is as light as a modern car gets. If you don't like modern cars anyway then, respectfully, this conversation is pretty pointless.

Like mine very much but instead of fannying around with minor upgrades one change which would transform the car would be to fix the godawful . As is , the steering on my ND is almost almost completely devoid of feel and feedback. For a car originally inspired by the Lotus Elan , famed for its sublime steering (and lots more besides ) , it's ironic that the MX5's steering is so bloody terrible .
Upgrade to more power is welcome , but for aesthetic reasons I'd take the same power but delivered by that creamy little V6 Mazda used to have. (And yes , I do know about Rocketeers ...but they are not for me)

Such a lovely little thing. I really want one, but don't know what I'd do with it!
Same here. The other colours seem to be limited to the special editions, of which there seem to be more than Lotus put out, and with normally zero mechanical changes as well. So if you wait long enough something in your ideal colour will turn up.
Love mine. I keep meaning to take it to BBR to get a bit more power and sort out the suspension as it sits a little high/is a bit bouncy. Not sure if it is an urban legend or not but on the Sport models Mazda are meant to have fitted the standard springs to shorter and stiffer dampers...
Only thing I'd want the factory to sort on any sort of clubsport model is to fit hydraulic power steering (or even better just junk power steering) as the electrical fitted to the ND is a step back from the NC's steering feel.
The Sat Nav is also fairly useless at route selection as it'll try and cut the corner off down a single track lane anytime it wants. It is possible to sideload Android Auto support to address this though, hopefully this is standard on the new model?

Compared with a Caterham 7 it might be heavy, but compared to nearly anything else its light!. Just over 1000KG for a proper car, i.e .something with doors, windscreen, modern day crash protection and modern comforts.
Its basically gained only about 50-75KG in weight since launch in 1990. Name me another sporty car that has put on such a small amount of weight since then.....I think the 911 has only put on about 100KG or so since 1990, but Im struggling to think of anything else. Certainly not a Golf GTI or equivalent. They've put on nearly half a ton!
I'm so glad there's love for the MK4 MX5, in particular the way it looks, as I've often felt like the only one, least in and amongst my petrolhead mates. I for one think it looks superb, and in these pictures it's a cracker.
Then again I have form in such a car having owned a MK3 MR2 for six years in the last decade.
Never been interested in any of the previous generations but this is a cracker.
