A Fiat Panda is hardly the last word in driving dynamics, is it? Shall we all get ripped into your choice of car now?
Maybe it isn't, but if you got out of a Q8 and straight into a Panda it would probably feel like a precision track day scalpel

With respect, all I see is people defending the right to freedom of choice. Attempting to shout down other people’s choices with incessant knob-headed childish arguments about ‘enthusiasts’ doesn’t do you any favours, it makes you come across as a dick. You probably won’t care, of course, but you should, because coming across as a dick is not a very productive or pleasant manner in which to engage in a discussion with other people. But then in my experience such people don’t care about that either, so I’m probably wasting my breath smile

An interesting juxtaposition of statements in your post:

It starts 'With repect' then goes on to say 'incessant knob-headed childish arguments' and 'coming across as a dick'.

It's one or t'other Kenny me old china!

Incidentally, describing arguments as childish by calling them knob-headed does somewhat diminish the logic of your argument as well as exhibit exactly the sort of behaviour you deride!

My post is best, therefore, concluded thus:

"You probably won’t care, of course, but you should, because coming across as a dick is not a very productive or pleasant manner in which to engage in a discussion with other people. But then in my experience such people don’t care about that either, so I’m probably wasting my breath smile

You too! Er, with brass knobs on and no returns biggrin

There are lovers of all sorts of cars here. Fast ones, slow ones, big ones, little ones, ones for track, ones for fields and forests.
And lorries too I guess.

PH is a broad church. If you don't like something, you don't have to open the thread to be a dick about it in it. That's all.
So why do it?

What is it that makes the owner of a 1.2 Panda more of an 'motoring enthusiast' that someone that drives a Megane RS?

No it's not. Absolutely nothing demonstrated. But top trolling, again.

I am glad you make yourself laugh but no still nothing demonstrated. Please enlighten me although I am not holding my breath coming from someone who confuses a 1300kgs car with a truck. I still don't know why it's silly btw nor why it needs to have anything to do with enthusiastic driving so feel free to explain.

But the trolling is good, keep it coming.

My true story.

I moved over once to let a big SUV pass and not quite enough so he had to go up a 2 inch curb. He then shouted at me because "do you know how much these wheels cost?"

So when I see this

and then I think

G wagon or Jimny or the next Defender if they get it right.

Sand and water tend to be soft, concrete kerb stones not so much.

You can use the tyre to stop your alloys hitting the kerb at 1mph if you use that thing called "the steering wheel" correctly. Obviously a past are lost to the modern SUV driver.

I'm looking forward to the first Q8 owner to prove me wrong,

The challenge is set. Replicate those exact pictures and I will buy you a nice bottle of red from .....

Waitrose.

And this is why I love PH - because on no other car forum in the world would one ever see the word 'postulate!'

[I mean this very sincerely]

Without calling X6 drivers rich, entitled wkers - what would be the point of the PH forum? In fairness, even though I don't fully understand the point of the X6M [shouldn't someone buying a sports activity vehicle drive it in a someone sporting manner? And I don't mean doing > 1 lepton, but at least accelerating smartly up to the speed limit], I have only ever seen one X6 drive in a manner befitting of an ASBO. Most simply drive normally to the shops and such

I think the assertion is supposed to be that you’re not allowed to drive a 4x4 unless your drive to work looks like those pictures. Apparently in a similar manner in which you’re not allowed to drive a performance car unless you live your life a quarter mile at a time or live on the Nordschleife...oh hang that’s not right is it? laugh

20 year old PHer: SUVS suck, car has to be no more than 1 metre off the ground and as close to 500kg as possible to have any credibility.
25 year old PHer: SUV not for me thanks, happy to hoon around in 3 series or equivalent, maybe 5 series if on the company's dime.
30 year old PHer: SUVs are quite convenient aren't they, getting sick of backache loading kids and stuff into normal car.
40 year old PHer: SUVs much more suited to family life aren't they, I'll get a sports car for the weekend hoon.
50 year old PHer: Don't need so much space anymore but really enjoy the convenience of the SUV, I wonder if say manufacturers produce a more stylish SUV.

Shouty middle-aged PHer: I've never seen a girl's foofoo before and so it's impossible that I would have any children, therefore SUVs are the devil's own and I will froth about it endlessly on every forum I can.

That made me laugh. Probably quite a lot of truth in it actually.
