The X6 has to be the most obnoxious car on the road for me. I imagine it's been successful because it appeals to that kind of clientele.

This Q8 looks more like a 'normal' SUV so I don't see how it competes at the same market point.
Every angry fat man with a trophy wife who won't sleep with him already owns an X6 or is looking to get an X8... So that market has dried up.

(I've never met an X6 owner who doesn't fit the angry fat man stereotype... I'm guessing about the wife)
How many X6 owners have you met though ? The only one I have met is an old and close friend, is a consultant doctor, has an X6M thing, lives in CH and either run/cycles everyday, is very fit and while his wife is very attractive, she is far from a trophy. Actually she could be his boss in the pharma industry.

So I could conclude that all X6 drivers are like him. But I don't because I don't know.

This is a terrible review. Auto journalist reviews an SUV on the characteristics in which one judges a sports car and finds he doesn't like it. Wow....clap......clap......clap.
Whilst i appreciate the characteristics of a sports car, I am also aware that a giant SUV is not going to be aimed at hitting the same buttons a sports car will. Who drives a car like this at 10/10ths down a country road with passengers in the back being sick and the shopping all smashed? yeah, no-one.

I really like the look of this car, particularly the way that Audi have finally managed to move their autonomous driving sensors from fake foglamps into the headlight assemblies themselves.

But today brings a wave of "it's a bit st when you actually try to drive it" reviews.

Ho hum...

The difference between this and a Q7 is...?

THe Q7 is already too big for UK roads and car parks, why make an even bigger one (if that's indeed what it is, and if it isn't then what's the point even having it?)?
banghead

Try reading the article first or Google some facts ... the Q8 is smaller than a Q7 ...

Yeah I know 8 is a bigger number than 7 but blame the Audi Marketing Dept. for not calling it the Q6 smile

Surely all consultant doctors drive a Volvo XC90 ... because the only consultant doctor I know, drives a Volvo XC90 ... wink

I see that the usual stereotypes of the alleged people that all apparently drive and buy these cars has already started to kick in, in usual PH fashion.

I think it looks quite nice for an SUV. These don't really do much for me though. It looks like a nice place to spend time in, i suppose. One thing that i don't personally like about new Audi's, that i had in my A4, is the digital fuel and temperature gauges. It sound quite petty, i know, but i really don't like them. Saying that, the virtual cockpit does look fantastic, i must admit.

What a childish comment. That's like me calling your volvo a vulva because it sounds similar rolleyes

And budget..... What another daft thought. Where do you draw the line? Isn't your Volvo V70 D5 a budget T5? Or, being a volvo, it's just a bit budget anyway? It's a different car.... So what if it's a bit cheaper?

Exactly. It really wouldn't be my kind of car but I am so glad they exist as different people like different things. More choice must be a good thing.

Like it or not, it's SUV time right now and i can't see it stopping anytime soon. They sell like hot-cakes and are becoming very popular. I prefer saloons/estates for practical motoring, as i like a low COG and driving position. I can certainly see why people do like these cars though, regardless.

My true story.

I moved over once to let a big SUV pass and not quite enough so he had to go up a 2 inch curb. He then shouted at me because "do you know how much these wheels cost?"

So when I see this

laughlaughlaughlaughlaugh

and then I think

G wagon or Jimny or the next Defender if they get it right.

wink

Did you put both your arguments into low ratio mode?

I can summarise this whole car. People with excess money who want to look good appreciate the AWD when they go onto their gravel drive way in front of their mock tudor manor before watching crap television on something that is at least 60 inches across.

YOU HAVE MADE IT IN LIFE !

You can use the tyre to stop your alloys hitting the kerb at 1mph if you use that thing called "the steering wheel" correctly. Obviously a past are lost to the modern SUV driver.

I'm looking forward to the first Q8 owner to prove me wrong,

The challenge is set. Replicate those exact pictures and I will buy you a nice bottle of red from .....

Waitrose.

I refreshed the page, and read your first sentence and thought I was still on the Jimny thread.

Like I said though, my FIL is thinking about one, but other than the 'excess money' part, you're miles off.

Sterotypes are usually based in fact. But they don't cover all scenarios, in fact, they're usually wrong the vast majority of the time.

Still, angry middle-aged PHers love a good Audi bashing thread laugh

With respect, whilst I’m sure your intentions are honourable, you are coming across as someone with a chip on their shoulder. I very much doubt anyone cares much what you think of their choice of car wink
