You can't argue with the engine, but the styling on these is so vile. Horrid front end, with little piggy X-Type headlights. Blingy, needlessly large wheels, styled like cheap aftermarket knockoffs. Fussy chrome side vents. At least the rear is OK, I suppose.

It's so nasty, I'd probably rather have an S-Type R - which is, of course, also fantastically ugly, and possibly even more so than this. But it was at least not the replacement for a massively better-looking car.

Absolute BS, why is one in your fantasy garage then?
1. Headlights are not piggy eyed like X-Type, they are fully rounded.
2. 20" wheels are available on most cars these days, fills the arches nicely
3. Not chrome vents, they are polished solid aluminium, one vent costs around £7,000 as spare part

Here is a picture of mine, which I know you will love laugh

£7,000? That can't be correct, can it?

It’s correct I believe.

I've had 3 X350 XJR's and loved them all. A great all round car and quick too.
Here's a pic of my last one.

That looks a lovely car (apart from the leaper!)

Firstly, I admit maybe I did go a bit far by saying I'd rather have an S-Type.

I do like the XJR, I just don't like the X350 - my fantasy garage XJR would be an X300 or X308. Of course, both models are rather long in the tooth now, and I don't think they have the aluminium bodywork, so perhaps I'd have to have an X350 and put up with it? It's true that once you're in the driver's seat, the looks are somebody else's problem.

In general, chrome, aluminium, whatever, I just don't think the degree of bling suits the car. The X350 has the supercharged 4L engine, which is the good bit, but it falls over when it comes to the unflashy looks that were for me always part of the XJ's appeal.

And the X350 headlights totally do look like the X-Type ones!

That is stunning, I'm definitely going to have to prise myself away from the 5 series' and try a Jag one day, I think it'll either be one of these or an XF V8S probably leaning more towards an XJ as it's a 'proper' Jag IMO.
