Also people laugh at the night panel idea but when driving for 18 hours across the continent I found it really handy helping to focus on the road at night.
Whilst I've rarely used it in the UK, the night panel feature really does make a difference on long distance night time drives across Europe.Am I the only one who thinks this is strong money for a 17 year old Saab in a not particularly desirable spec, from the "reworked Vauxhall" era with 163,000 miles on the clock. And it's modified with nothing more than a "butt dyno" to quantify it, to boot.
There's a standard one on Autotrader, admittedly an automatic, but a year newer, with a longer MOT, and slightly lower mileage for £495
£1500 would get you into a 2006-ish Aero.
Cool car, but way overpriced, IMHO.

It's £1300.
£1500 is a comparable budget. And within Shed rules.I'd take a later Aero over this any day of the week.

I've always quite fancied a Saab and was sad when they went. Interesting shed this one.
Noting a previous comment about Saab drivers, A lot of them do appear to be on a mission it has to be said, particularly post 2005 diesel Saab drivers. They're not that common these days, but I reckon Saabs are every bit as prone to tailgating as the usual german marques. I think it was Clarkson who said once that he'd never ever been tailgated by a Saab and that's certainly not been my experience!
Wouldn't put me off buying a Saab though, as I like their quirkiness. As a kid, the original 99 Turbo was one of my dream cars, believe it or not. Wonder what they go for these days.
Personally I'd prefer the next gen on 9-3 aero however.

Nice article but the whole Stages in tuning is ridiculous.
Isn't that how you described your old car? jagnet said:

Says the man with a Ford Orion and Nissan Cherry in his list of conquests. Saab were never "in fashion": they were bought by people who appreciated the engineering, innovation, safety and didn't follow the herd by buying German. Or Volvos. They lost sales because GM sanitised all of that out of them, in an excellent example of not making what the buyers want.

Cant stand most Saab's, boring as fk, horrible to look at, only decent Saab is the convertible range. This is even worse being an estate hearse mobile. Plus most Saab drivers are selfish tts on the road.

Good shed, even if its high mileage. Only downside for me is its in silver.
I can only assume that sometime around 2014 either a Saab Estate overtook him and he's never been able to live it down, or his wife ran off with a Saab owner.well done sir!

I wonder if he just has a thing against Swedish cars... So here's my Volvo
Joking aside, this is a top shed. I'd like to try a fast Saab one day, nothing quite like the old-school feeling nothing-nothing-nothing-boooooost!

The chassis was a bit wayward, the 9-3 liek this was much better than the 900 it was based on, hilarious wheelspin in the wet, could leave a roundabout and keep the unloaded front spinning almost indefinitely, it wasnt unpleasant to drive, just wasnt one for being hustled, later model was better and pretty capable but not much fun while it was about it.
Really underrated cars these old 93's, handsome, roomy and understated. Those alloys are to me, one of the best wheel designs of recent years. I really enjoyed mine even if it was a relatively lowly diesel.
I'd have another in a heartbeat but it's getting increasingly hard to find a decent one about as they're now knocking on a bit.

Here's mine, it's always pleasing when shed endorses my purchase, I feel it validates me as a pistonheader
Bought a couple of years ago for £1000, since then pretty much nothing has gone wrong. The clutch started slipping but that was just after my stage 1 remap, (so my fault really ) anyway had that changed, but apart from that it's been basic servicing and a few minor bits and pieces to keep it going.
It has bubbly rear arches, handling's not great, quite a harsh ride as well, but 250bhp is hilarious, engine is smooth and quiet at 150k, everything works, boot is massive, quite tolerable fuel economy given the way it goes, the leather seats are as comfy as my last shed (XJ8, - also a frequently appearing shed). I shall keep it until it breaks, and probably keep buying Saabs until you can't get them anymore.

And that statement pretty much sums up every post I've ever seen you make on SOTW. 2 out of 10 for your input would be a tad generous though!Does seem a little bit strong for that amount of miles and a non-Aero (albeit breathed on).
I paid £800 for a 2002 9-3 Aero Coupe with FSH and 170,000 miles on it.
Torque steered it around for seven months until it failed it's MOT and then got rid of it, was great fun while it lasted but needed a few too many bits doing.
Oil leaking out of it whilst it was up on the ramps being shown which bits of suspension, etc. it failed on kind of mailed the coffin shut for me.
