RE: Pikes Peak: The ones to watch
Discussion
I paid my $4.99 and am watching it on Matchsports Live...
Am I going mad, or are they spending far too much time talking and showing interviews rather than showing the racing? I've looked to see if there is a button to choose views in case I'm watching the "red button" type stream instead of the racing... no luck though!
ETA Their Twitter feed is full of people with the same issue... I hope it improves as the event continues!

Also this old style Pikes Peak car, how I remember most of them looking when I first heard of it many years ago. Before the European rally teams started bringing their cars over.

I watched a (free and probably illegal) Matchsports Live stream through YouTube this afternoon, in which an electric veedub smashed the 2013 overall record by 19 seconds. Since we're only at the outset of high density, high current draw battery tech development, this looks like the beginning of the end for the internal combustion engine. It was good while it lasted.

Wow. This is essentially like seeing a Model T Ford killing the competition. It’s early days for the tech and development, and they’re already murdering the competition! As said, the days of the IC are numbered - shame as it is. All hail the new king.

A slightly unique event where an IC engine is atmosphere restricted the further up the course it goes, and it’s onky got to run for 8 minutes or so... There’s a long way to go yet tr3a said:

Let's see how well they do in the Le Mans 24hrs The IDR record looks impressive and to best Loeb is no mean feat but then, it's a purpose built car that doesn't suffer an atmospheric falloff. It looks more like a prototype racer than any other Pikes Peak record holder and yet, it hasn't really bested the petrol car by that much, with all that going for it. In future years, it might really hit it's stride.
