RE: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG: Spotted
Discussion
I looked at buying one of these about a year ago but have gone off the idea since, more sporting than the Sl55 if had in the right spec I believe. It looked like 35K was needed for a good one, didn't want to spend more than 30K at the time.
Bought a TVR Griffith instead... not the same car but glad i did for the thrills.

I always thought SL's were 2+2's? Albeit always assumed the rear seats were for really small kids only.
Is this not actually the case?
Nope, strictly a two-seater roadster, rear "seat" shelf is for storage; you could buy a £250 bag that went across the whole width of the shelf and was fastened in place with two straps, which do admittedly look a little like seat belts (I was chatting to an owner once who was convinced he had the rare rear seat option. I just smiled and nodded…). Is this not actually the case?
Nice cars.
Agree, that 55 AMG Kompressor has something more alluring about it and look better.
I'm sure they also used the earlier CL55 AMG for the Pace Cars as well, before the supercharged models?
And an CL600 V12 Bi turbo would give this a good run for it's money, especially given a long enough stretch of road. Obviously it won't have the finesse of the SL63!

This engine was not well received by the motoring press at the time, the high revving nature of its power delivery was a let down after the old supercharged v8. Agree, that 55 AMG Kompressor has something more alluring about it and look better.
